Just Deserts
Get sweet, sweet compensation for unsavoury airline snafus.

Here’s the deal: ¡Ay caramba! Your suitcase is off somewhere
going on a holiday of its own. The airline tells you “it should
arrive tomorrow” ... four days in a row. The airline’s negligence
is more than just a nuisance. It’s digging into your holiday
budget, since you’ve had to buy new toiletries and clothes.
More days pass, and the airline declares your bag “lost.” Too
bad, so sad … right? Wrong. The airline must compensate you
for delayed and lost baggage. But they don’t want you to know
that.

The rundown: In most countries, you can get airline

compensation for delayed, damaged, or missing baggage. If one
or more of your bags are MIA, file a report with your airline
ASAP (before you leave the airport). For every day that your
bag is missing, you will need clothes: so buy what you need
and keep every receipt. Also, save your trip confirmation
number and every ticket number, and take note of the dates
and times. On average, compensation for a lost or damaged
bag can net you up to $1,525 – $3,500. So don’t miss out! To
get started, just google the airline + “reimbursement form.”
What about delayed and cancelled flights? Certain airlines
may compensate you for those or, in the worst case, offer
rewards if you’re “bumped” off an overbooked flight.
