CHAPTER-5 -CHILD LABOUR – A REAL STORY

1. Explain these peoples point of view for employing a child:

a) Labourers point of view –
Poor and uneducated labourers think that more hands mean more money. It is
a better option to send them for work rather spent on their education.
b) Employers point of view –
Employers believe that children between the age of 7 to 10 are most energetic,
dextrous and very obedient. They could be made to work for long hours and
thus could save a lot of money. Children of this age are easily impressionable,
gullible and fall easy victim to all the big dreams
2) How do you think child labour set a vicious circle? Understand the vicious
cycle and comment.
Poverty rules the lives of children who do child labour. They are thrown into an
endless cycle of hard manual labour. Once the child is put into this cycle, the
family usually cannot raise enough money to buy the child back, or the child
never gets an education or even a payment to do something else later on
his/her life. They always get trapped in this cobweb.
Lack of education leads to poor family planning, poverty, illiteracy and thus
creating a vicious circle of child labour.
