Key words
Diversity- the practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different
social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc./ the
existence of variations of different characteristics in a group of people.
Sex- is the trait that determines whether a sexually reproducing organism produces male or
female gametes.
Gender- the state of being male or female in relation to the social and cultural roles that are
considered appropriate for men and women.
Sexual Orientation- a person's identity in relation to the gender or genders to which they
are sexually attracted; the fact of being heterosexual, homosexual, etc./who you're attracted
to and want to have relationships with. Sexual orientations include gay, lesbian, straight,
bisexual, and asexual.
Transgender- someone whose gender identity differs from that typically associated with the
sex they were assigned at birth.
Queer- denoting or relating to a sexual or gender identity that does not correspond to
established ideas of sexuality and gender, especially heterosexual norms/ a word that
describes sexual and gender identities other than straight and cisgender.
Intersex- People who are intersex have genitals, chromosomes or reproductive organs that
do not fit into a male/female sex binary. Their genitals might not match their reproductive
organs, or they may have traits of both.
