Changes in Sälen, Dalarna: Final question

One di erence between 1975 Dalarna and today is the increase in inhabitants and residential houses.
In 1975 you can see largely scattered inhabitants with a few houses here and there. Today, you can
see that the area where houses once were has been densi ed and more residential areas have been
created. We can see this by the "man-made" structure of the di erent kinds of small neighbourhoods
and by the red/orange tiled houses.

The increase in population can also be seen in the two images above. Here forestry has been lost at
the expense of an increase in residents. Thanks to the unique structure of the area and shadows of
the blocks one can assume it is a neighbourhood with houses/buildings.

Another di erence that we can see throughout the area is a creation or re-appearance of new bodies
of water. This could be due to a depression being formed in the ground and it exceeding the water
table or this could also be due to the fact that the Swedish government subsidized farmers to build
small water bodies in order to promote biodiversity.

One major di erence that can be seen throughout is the loss of agricultural land.

In the 1960 faming was the dominant land use and this can be seen by the well structured "man-
made" land elds in the image from 1960. In the image from today we can see that the majority has
disappeared or been aggregated into a larger unit.

In these images we see again how the land is not being used for agriculture today. The whole area
that was used for agriculture back in 1960 has been turned into what looks like a production factory /
site (maybe for wood/timbre which can be interpreted by the long redish /orange logs)

A little further south of the above images we can also

see what seems to be a (strip) mine. Due to the
shadows, depressions and colour of the sand. This
also shows the change in land use.

Lastly, as one could imagine with an in crease in population, an increase of road production as seen
on the images above by the appearance of line in the picture from Sälen, Darlana today.

All of the above images re ect the increase in population size that Dalarna experienced from 1960 to
today and also the urbanization of Swedish farming, agriculture and land use.
