Ayaan walked stiffly along the tranquil beach, examining

the sapphire ocean. He could smell the salty water and
feel the golden sand in between his toes. He expected to
see a flock of seagulls crying in the sky, but apart from
the gentle rolling of the waves, he could hear nothing else.

Suddenly, a shimmering red crab clasped Ayaan’s small foot.

On Sunday, I went to Brighton beach with my family. I was
quite excited. We travelled by car. The journey was very
long and boring. When we arrived, it was hot. Then, it
started to rain and the clouds were grey.

There were many families sitting on the sand. People were

eating food. Children were laughing and splashing around
in the sea. I didn’t like the seagulls, because they crowded
around us when we were eating.

My Favourite Place

When describing your favourite place, you should include the following:
The weather (if your favourite place is outdoors)
The sounds/smells/sights
What is happening?
Your feelings

When writing a description of your favourite place, each paragraph should be based
around one small topic. Look at the following plan for a description of Chessington World
of Adventures:

1. Weather/Entrance

4. Teacup 2. Doughnut/Sweets
Chessington
Ride/Feelings Stall

3. Vampire
Ride/Feelings

Read the following paragraph and highlight the connectives/sentence openers, which have
been used:

Chessington World of Adventures

I excitedly clutched onto my auntie’s hand, as I hurtled

towards the entrance of Chessington. Sadly, the sky was
as grey as dust and there was a light drizzle of rain.
Despite the unwelcoming weather, I was still bubbling like
a fizzy drink! Soon I reached the queue of people, who
were lining up to buy their tickets. Fortunately, we were
in the queue, which was the shortest!
Using the plan on the previous page to help you, write the next

one-two paragraphs describing Chessington World of

Adventures.

Think carefully about your use of connectives, and improve your

writing by using the 5 senses, adverbs, similes and adjectives.

Remember to make your first sentence exciting!

Last week, I went to London Zoo with my brothers. We went there by train
and tube. It was a sunny day. When we arrived, there were long queues of
people waiting to buy tickets. I became very frustrated. We had to wait a
very long time until we could enter the zoo.

Finally, we got our tickets. I was excited. There were crowds of people
rushing to see the animals. First, we saw the lions. They were big and
strong. They looked hungry and angry.
