Understanding Lean and Six Sigma

Introduction The “seven wastes” is one of the most important continuous improvement terms you
will hear. Most of the Lean tools, at their core, focus on reducing waste to improve flow.
The seven wastes provide a systematic way to categorize problems and identify
improvement priorities. When assessing a process, looking for the seven wastes helps Lean
teams find more opportunities to streamline the flow of work

Objective The objectives for this training course are to:

 Introduce the concept of Lean and how the 7 Wastes are associated with it
 Introduce the concept of 7 Wastes
 Energise staff to understand the benefits of removal of the 7 Wastes
 Explain how to identify and eliminate waste
 Practically examine the benefits of removing waste and the potential savings
 Practise identifying the 7 Wastes in your own business

Course Content Our one-day Lean 7 Wastes Training Course will include:

 Introduction to Lean manufacturing


 What is waste, value added and non-value added activities
 The 7 Wastes, what are they and their classification
 Identifying waste – waste walk – exercise looking at different businesses and companies
 How to eliminate waste
 Savings possible through waste elimination
