1. He was a Muslim military leader and sultan in the 12th century.


2. He was born in Tikrit, Iraq, in 1137 CE and grew up in a family of warriors.
3. He became the vizier of the Fatimid Caliphate of Egypt at the young age of 26.
4. He rose to prominence in 1174 CE after he became the commander of the Syrian
army under the Muslim ruler Nur al-Din.
5. In 1187 CE, he led the Muslim forces against the Crusaders and recaptured
Jerusalem, which had been under Crusader control for almost 100 years.
6. Despite being a fierce warrior, he was known for his chivalry and respect for his
enemies.
7. He often allowed defeated Crusaders to go free if they agreed to leave Muslim lands
peacefully.
8. He's victory in the Battle of Hattin is considered one of his most significant military
achievements.
9. He also had successful campaigns against other Crusader strongholds, such as Jaffa,
Ascalon, and Caesarea.

during his reign.
