Character Sketch

Viola

She’s a pretty girl, who lost her twin brother in the sea. She didn’t know that her brother was
saved. She is intelligent. She had to pretend to be a man, cuted her hair and named herself as
Cesario, to work for Orsino. But what happens is Viola/ Cesario fell in love with Orsino, but
who Orsino loves was Olivia. And she just hided this in her heart.

Cesario was persuading Olivia that Orsino was in deep love with her, but Cesario was sad too
at the same time.

She didn’t know that Olivia fell in love with her in the identity of Cesario, before Olivia gave her
that ring. Olivia keeps chasing after Cesario, even though Cesario rejected her.

Cesario is courageous.

Some weird things happened with Cesario. The first thing was that why would a man, which is
Antonio, that she doesn’t know ask back his money, and the second thing is that Sir Andrew
and Sir Toby said that Cesario beated them, but Cesario didn’t. After he saws Sebastian she
understanded, because they looked much alike and she was very happy to see Sebastian was
alive.

Viola was so courageous, and brave she is indeed the main character. Viola was calm when
Olivia is always chasing after her, and rejected Olivia several times, but she didn’t give up.

And finally Orsino knows Cesario’s true Identity, which is Viola, and they finally formed a
couple and be together.

Maria

Maria she is Olivia’s personal maid. She is brave and courageous. She always scold Sir Toby for
being always drunk. She was against Malvolio because she thinks he is so self-centered.

So she took the revenge, she wrote a love letter, using a similar letter as Olivia. She left it on
the ground when Malvolio is almost passing there. She was very happy that Malvolio believed
this, and her revenge was successful. Malvolio obeyed all these instructions in the letter, he
used his yellow stockings, and used his smile. Malvolio is just looks like he is mad.

Taking the joke further, Maria, Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, and Feste lock Malvolio in a dark room,
commanded by Olivia. Maria, Sir Toby and Sir Andrew send Feste in pretending to be a priest,
who tells Malvolio that he indeed crazy. All of these jokes satisfy Maria's need to get the
revenge on Malvolio for treating her unkindly, and for threatening her, as well as Sir Toby, Sir
Andrew, and Feste. Maria is indeed intelligent on this.
