A Feast of

Turkey Topics!

An Exercise in Main Ideas and Supporting

Details for Better Written Language
How to use this freebie:

Use page 3 as a visual aid or analogy for explaining the topic, main idea and supporting
details.

Pages 4-6 contain 12 tables of topics. Match them to the turkeys (main ideas) on pages 7 & 8
OR give students just the topic card and ask them to come up with their OWN main idea.

Page 9 (make an additional 3-4 copies of this page) contains 12 images that represent
supporting details. Ask students to provide FOUR supporting details for each table/turkey
match. They can choose from various side dishes/utensils for their table once they have
done so.

Page 10 contains blank tables and turkeys to create your own topics and/or main ideas (feel
free to make extra copies)

Page 11 can be used to organize the topic, main idea and supporting details. Use this
information to write out a complete paragraph with the page provided (page 12).
