This document provides instructions for decorating with straw angels. It describes how to construct the arms by tying straws together at the wrists and elbows. It then explains how to make a halo by braiding three straws into a circle. Finally, it details how to assemble the full angel figure by mounting straws representing the dress onto a wooden base and dowel, and attaching the arms, halo, and other ornamental elements.

ARMS Use ten straws, 7 inches long. Add a 7-inch wire
by inserting into one straw. Tie the wrists 34 inch from each end, tight, so that straws flare out to suggest fingers. Tie each elbow l inch from wrist. HALO Braid three matched straws to make halo. Tie ends to form circle. HARP Bend one long straw into a triangle, with an overlap of V, inch. Trim this end to a point, and insert it into opposite end of straw. BASE Mount an oval wooden bead on a long dowel (7-inch) on a round base to form the necessary standard for the angel. Forty-five 8-inch straws and needed for the dress. Keep these tied into a bundle until the neck ruffle is securely and tightly tied to the dowel. Then cut the first thread. DRESS Arrange straws evenly around standard. Place arms under half of the straws, through the center of the dress. Place the wings back of the arms, under three straws. Pull all dress straws
into original position and tie the bodice very
tight, so that skirt flares. Use excess gold thread on wings to make a sash around waist. ORNAMENT Weave a gold thread around the bottom of dress straws, just above the wooden standard. Tie thread, and secure it with a drop of glue. Trim off bottom of dress at the level of the bottom of the standard. PLACEMENT 10. Glue finest straws, or thread, or wire, to the triangle (in 6), allow to dry, and tie to the angel's neck and wrists. Bend the arms as illus trated. Attach halo with fine wire twisted around angel's neck. 101
