LANGUAGE ACQUISITION AND LEARNING

1. Give at least 7 out of 10 reasons the difference between Language Learning and
Language Acquisition.

1. Language is not inborn during childhood the brain is more adaptable to

acquiring languages naturally without formal education. Language Learning
on the other hand can be done at any age, but it often involves instruction
and is more common in adolescents and adults.

2. Language Acquisition likely happens through exposure to the language in

natural, social contexts, such as interactions with family and friends.
Language Learning takes place in formal educational settings, language
tutorial, language online classes, or self-study in which often uses second
language.

3. Language Acquisition may happen without thinking it over or one learns

and acquires such word or language subconsciously through exposure and
interaction with others. Language Learning: Involves explicit, conscious
learning of grammatical rules, vocabulary, and language structure.

4. Language Acquisition aims on developing fluency and communicative

competence, even if the speaker makes occasional errors. However,
Language learning is on accuracy and correctness of pronunciation, which
can sometimes hinder fluency as learners may be hesitant to speak for fear
of making mistakes.

5. Language that is acquired by individuals early in life are more likely to

develop native-like pronunciation as they mimic the accent for a longer
period while Language Learning may be influenced by the learner's native
language and can be more challenging to achieve a native-like accent.

6. In early childhood during which language acquisition is most effective, and

it becomes more challenging as one ages, unlike Language Learning
occurs at any age, but it becomes progressively harder to achieve native-
like proficiency as one gets older.

7. These differences highlight that language acquisition is a more natural,

subconscious process that occurs in early childhood, while language
learning involves conscious effort and can occur at any age.
2. Give at least 5 to 7 summary differences between Language Learning and
Language Acquisition “Make sure to give a brief description to each difference.”

1) AGE AND NATURALNESS:

It is natural that we acquire language at an early age as we are exposed to
other people’s conversation. Language Learning on the other hand applies
conscious effort and formal instruction.

2) IMPLICIT VS. EXPLICIT KNOWLEDGE:

As mentioned above we acquire language at an early age and other than
that we acquire it subconsciously, but Language Learning involves studying
grammar rules, vocabulary, and language structure.

3. FLUENCY VS. ACCURACY:

People who acquired language naturally aim for fluency allowing for some
mispronunciation and wrong grammar, but not with Language Learning since it
emphasizes accuracy and correctness in grammar and pronunciation.

4. PRONUNCIATION:
People who acquire a language early tend to develop native-like pronunciation
as it adapts to it. Regarding Language Learning the learner's native language
and can be challenging to achieve native-like accents.

5. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Acquisition of language occurrence naturally with interactions and immersion
in the language that surrounds. But language learning occurs in formal
education.
