Online Ethics and Netiquette

Benefits of following the online etiquette:

1. Through online etiquette, showing respect to other people is still observed even
in the online world.
2. Online sites give us the privilege to do whatever we want but netiquette tells
everyone not to abuse this power and be disciplined in our actions.
3. It reminds us to be responsible enough in choosing the proper words we put
online and that we are held accountable if we became reckless.
4. This enables the user to create a positive and good reputation which can be very
influential to others and makes them inspired to do the same as well.
5. If we chose to spread expert knowledge online (Netiquette Core Rule no. 6), we
can educate people and share correct information to everyone who sees it.

Real-life examples of bad netiquette  other people do online that you have observed or
experienced.

1. Some people just could not stop in giving harsh or rude comments online which
is certainly inappropriate. It can be very hurtful to the person receiving hate that
can affect his/her emotional and mental health.
2. The passwords that we use were often quite easy and base it on our basic
information like birthday, address, or favorite number. It should be avoided
because it makes our account less secure and prone to problems.
3. Fake information and news were still going around the internet that create
misinterpretations and confusion to others.
4. A person’s work (can be literary piece, a painting, video edit, etc.) can be easily
stolen and copied. This is illegal and very disrespectful to the owner of the work
that was plagiarized.
5. I observed some identity thefts wherein they stole a specific person’s name,
picture and other important details, and after that, they post unnecessary and
inappropriate words under the name of that person. They can also make
transactions using that account even if the real owner is clueless that there was a
purchase using his/her money.
