The Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers Activities and Assessments

Activity 1.
After reading the key concepts, work on the following:

Self-Reflection

I realized that …

 That teachers are given huges rules imbued with expectations of respect and
honor, thus with responsibilities.

Teacher as role model

 As role models, it may be difficult but teachers are expected to be responsibly

mindful of their acts and manners in front of learners and even colleagues. This
calls for a professional attitude and that of becoming of a person of authority
and reputable demeanors.

Teacher’s personality

 The personality of teacher, without necessarily infringing his/her right to be

who he/she is must be anchored in the ethical expectations and principles of
decorum set forth in such a noble profession.

Teacher’s social adjustment

 Besides a personal life and a classroom decorum of professionalism expected

from any teacher, social adjustment considerate of the way the society views a
teacher as a social leader is also a point of reflection. Such a noble profession
really sets the bar high for anyone imbued with such role in the society.

Teacher’s professional growth and development

 In the middle of all expectations set among teachers, professional growth and
development still holds a special area for the continuing academic endeavors
and contribution to the educative process in the field.

Teacher’s accountability

 Teacher’s accountability dwells more on the public responsibilities of a teacher,

being one public official as well, and which holds him/her responsible for the
government properties that he/she may be using while discharging his/her
functions. This calls for teacher’s careful or tactful attitude not only to his/her
reputation but towards the facilities of the institution he/she is working at.

Mr. Baguio is right in his action. Under the

Code of Ethics (with its totality considered
and with provisions of SEC. 1, ARTICLE V
of the Code of Ethics for Professional
teachers), mutual confidence is expected,
thereby presuming that a teacher is
expected to have discharged his/her duties
professionally and may be referred to to
explain such acts, should there be
questions therein. Support for one another
is another principle that must be expected
among teachers, and which must be
adhered to by teachers in general.
