COURSE OUTPUT:
1. Describe the current educational system in the Philippines
- In the Philippines, our educational system has been highly influenced by
the country’s colonial history. That history has included periods of
Spanish, American and Japanese rule and occupation. The most
important and lasting contributions came during America’s occupation of
the country, which began in 1898. It was during that period that English
was introduced as the primary language of instruction and a system of
public education was first established—a system modeled after the
United States school system and administered by the newly established
Department of Instruction.
Currently, Philippines offered education through formal and non-formal
systems. Formal education typically spans 16 years and is structured in a
6+6+4 system: 6 years of primary school education, 6 years of secondary
school education(four years junior high school and two years in senior high
school), and 4 years of higher education, leading to a bachelor’s degree. Our
country’s education has been revised and improved from Basic Education
Curriculum to K to 12 Curriculum.
Normally, the academic school year begins in June and concludes in March, a
period that covers a total of 40 weeks, but because of the pandemic, the

department of education together with commission on higher education
adjusted the academic year to august until first week of july. All higher
education institutions operate on a semester system—fall semester, winter
semester and an optional summer term. Schooling is compulsory for 12 years,
beginning at age 7 and culminating at age 18. These 12 years represent a child’s
primary and secondary school education.
English was the sole language of instruction in the Philippines form 1935 to
1987, the new constitution prescribed that both Pilipino (Tagalog) and English
are the official language of instruction and communication. In K to 12
curriculum the Mother Tongue Based or Multilingual Education is included
wherein the students in form grade 1 to grade 3 will use their mother tongue
or native language in this subject.

2. Cite some dimensions in curriculum development and discus their

relevance to enrich current curriculum.
-We have different dimensions of curriculum such as the following;
Philosophical-Theological, psychological dimensions of curriculum
development, Social Dimensions. It is very important to learn about the
dimensions of curriculum because it does not only helps us educations in
implementing the curriculum or bringing the content of the curriculum
into the reality but also understand our students and teach them
effectively.

3. Discuss the different curriculum designs as to approaches and pedagogy.

- Subject-centered Approach primarily focuses on subject-matter. Its
emphasis is on bits and pieces of information which are detached from

- Learner-centered Approach is constructed based on the needs, interest,
purposes and abilities of the learner. Its Curriculum is also built upon
learner’s knowledge, skills, learnings and potentials.
- Problem-centered Approach assumes that in the process of living,
learners experience problems, thus, problem solving enables the learners
to become increasingly able to achieve complete or total development as
individuals.

4. What do you think are the gaps in implementing the curriculum? What
will you suggest to better improve the curriculum design?
-As an educator, I have observe different gaps in implementing the
curriculum such as the curriculum is excellent but the problem is how
should we implement or execute it, are we ready or equip? Are the
teachers ready? We should not just talk about what to teach but how
should we teach, who are going to teach. And also the curriculum should
be align to the needs and the learning capacity of the students.
