Keep your eyes peeled for slug
bugs! Many people have been play-
ing the game Slug Bug, or Punch
Buggy, since childhood. But how did
the game start?
The truth is, no one really knows.
In 2009 a commercial for the Volkswa-
gen Beetle showed a man playing the
Slug Bug game. In the commercial, it
says the game started over 50 years
ago, probably in the 1960s when the
VW Bug became a very popular car.
How to Play:
If you spot a VW Beetle or
Bug, shout out “Slug Bug!” or
“Punch Buggy!”
Shout the color of the car.
Gently punch your friend or
family member in the arm.

Since old Beetles are rare

now, a new Bug can count as 1
punch, and the old Beetle counts
for 2 punches.
How many Slug Bugs
did you see on your trip?
