Triumph Through Adversity
introduction
Theme Verse:
And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and
naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken
away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” Job 1:21 ESV

We walk, passing by the things that we desire— some we

have had in our lives for quite some time, some come
easily—then we wake up and they are gone

We run for many things we think we deserve; we work hard for

them; we chase people until we can’t have them anymore—

Until we don’t have anything at all

And only by then will we find Him, the One who gives and
takes away—

The One who walks on water

The One who runs welcomes you home when you don’t
deserve anything at all.

Read: Job Chapter 1 & 2—Introducing Job and his blessings;

Satan’s Challenge: Testing Job’s faith 1
Daily Verse: “There was a man in the land of Uz whose name
was Job, and that man was blameless and upright, one who
feared God and turned away from evil.” Job 1:1 ESV

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: Job was a blameless, upright man who feared
God and shunned evil, and he was considered great among
the people of the East (1 v.1). Satan challenged God to put
Job to the test, believing that he only loved God because of
his blessings (v.7-12). Job lost his children, servants, and
animals in quick succession, but he did not sin by accusing
God (v. 13-22). Job’s three friends came to sympathize with
and comfort him, sitting with him for seven days and seven
nights without saying a word (2 v.11).

As someone who may have faced their own share of struggles

and hardships, you may find yourself questioning why God
would allow such pain to exist in the world.

In your own moments of suffering, whether it be financial

difficulty, the loss of a loved one, or other personal struggles,
it can feel like the weight of the world is pressing down on
you. But try to remember that, just like Job, everything you
have comes from God, and He alone can take it away. Even in
the midst of great pain, you can lift your head heavenward
and call out to the Lord.

Although you may not understand God’s reasons for allowing

you to suffer, it is important to remain still and continue to
put your faith in Him. It’s okay to have questions and doubts,
but trust that God has His own reasons for what you are going
through. Just like Job, remain faithful even in the darkest of
times, knowing that God is with you always.

Grief and Loss;
Eliphaz’s Counsel: The First Friend Speaks
2
Daily Verse: “After this Job opened his mouth and cursed the
day of his birth.” Job 3:1 ESV

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: Job lamented his birth and questioned his
existence (3 v.11). Eliphaz tried to explain what could have
been happening and tried to uplift him (4 v.7).

Everyone goes through circumstances, good or not so good. In

this lifetime we will experience a lot of pain but how do we
deal with them all? Some deal with it calmly, some ask God
why and many choose to pour out their emotions to feel okay.
Job’s friends even heard him cursed the day he was born.
Imagine how hard his situation was that he wanted not to be
born.

In our suffering, we too, tell that to ourselves. Some even

whisper in their prayers during their lowest, “God, bakit pa
ako ipinanganak? Para maghirap lang?” There are many
things in our life that we don’t understand. Troubles that we
don’t know when they will end, and during these moments we
can only cry. Pour out every drop of bitterness inside us, cry
out to God, pour it all out because even there at our lowest, He
is there.

spirit drinks their poison; the terrors of God are arrayed
against me. Does the wild donkey bray when he has grass, or
the ox low over his fodder?” Job 6:4-5 ESV

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: In chapter 5, Eliphaz continued to declare that
Job sinned and what happened to him was a punishment
from God. (5 v.3-7; 17). As a result, he encouraged Job to
seek God. In Chapter 6, Job responded that his complaint
had a reason. Job described the heaviness of his suffering as
if God were striking him with poisonous arrows (6 v.1-4). Job
has high regard for God and His words (v.10). Job refused to
take Eliphaz’s advice and said it was not helping him
(v.14-23). He, therefore, asked his friend to help him
comprehend what he had done incorrectly because he was
aware of good and bad deeds (v.24-30).

Although Eliphaz intended to help Job, this did not happen.

Job had nothing but agony. When Job described how awful
his suffering was, he felt unbearable pain because God was
attacking him. He was pleading with God to put an end to
pain.

We often grumble while we are hurting: “Lord, why do you

allow this suffering? Why must it be done through
discomfort?” You grieved greatly because you felt lost, empty,
and hopeless. Your pain had a reason, and your experiences
are real and valid. However, express your complaints when
necessary and be sincere with God about them. A friend
should support you and be by your side when you’re hurt, yet
frequently they don’t fully grasp the significance of your
heartfelt sobs. Regardless of how heavy your heart may be
right now, make the decision to tell God about it and be
honest about it because our God is compassionate and has
purposes and reasons for everything. Whatever the cause, be
reminded to stay in God’s presence and watch how He will
carry you through those grief seasons.

Read: Job Chapter 7 & 8—Job Mourns the Futility of Life;

Bildad’s Response 4
Daily Verse: “What is man, that you make so much of him,
and that you set your heart on him, visit him every morning
and test him every moment?” Job 7:17-18 ESV

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: Job Chapter 7 depicts Job’s suffering (v.1-5),
mourning of life’s futility (v.6-10), protesting (v.11-16), and
appealing (v. 17-21) to God. In verse 6, Job expresses his
misery amidst his agony. In verse 14, he even sees God as the
one inflicting his pain.

In Chapter 8, Job’s lamentations are met by Bildad’s brazen

responses. Bildad seems convinced that Job is in dire
suffering because the latter has sinned against God. To
Bildad, everything is in black and white—only blessings will
come to the blameless, and only punishment awaits the
sinners.

In our daily walk with the Lord, we can find ourselves in

situations wherein we are either Job—who cries to God during
difficult times because we do not understand; or Bildad—and
think we fully grasp God’s nature by basing solely on
blessings and curses. In times of suffering, we must
remember that there are things we do not see in the heavenly
realm. Sometimes, our predicaments are hard to
comprehend, but we must trust that God only has our best
interest. He is just preparing us to experience Him fully—like
He did with Job.

Diyos (see Job 9:4).

pananampalataya.

Response to Job’s Situation 6
Daily Verse: “If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away, and
let not injustice dwell in your tents.” Job 11:14 ESV

Daily Devo: In Job 11, a man named Zophar criticizes Job’s

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

complaint to God. Zophar is one of Job’s three companions,
whom Job refers to as “miserable comforters” (see Job 16:3).
Zophar took the same stance as his two friends: God is just,
and Job must have done something to upset Him. Hence, his
response that Job deserved far worse from God (v.1-6). In
verses 13-29, Zophar urged Job to repent and concluded his
instruction by warning and rebuking Job (v.20).

In verse 14, Zophar advised Job to turn from his sin and seek
God’s compassion and mercy. In Zophar’s opinion, accepting
Job’s punishment from God rather than objecting to its
injustice was the wisest course of action. However, Job’s claim
to be innocent was understandable (see Job 9:21-22). He did
not, in fact, commit any particular sin that would account for
his extreme suffering. Even God acknowledged Job as
blameless in this regard (see Job 2:3). Although Zophar’s
intention was right–to remind Job that he was still a sinner in
general, he forgot what grace looks like—to rebuke in love.

If you were in Job’s situation, will you be able to comprehend

why God is allowing those things to happen? If you are a
faithful servant of God and you suddenly lose your wealth,
your family, and even your strength, aren’t you going to
question God’s promises to you? As a family, when we witness
sin in one another, it is our duty to confront and correct. But
let us be reminded to rebuke in love—aiming for restoration
from a heart of humility with a reluctant willingness to be
severe, if necessary.

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Since his days are determined, and the number of his months
is with you, and you have appointed his limits that he cannot
pass.” Job 14:5 ESV

Daily Devo: In Job chapter 13, Job expressed how he wanted

to argue his case before God (v. 3) and to also ask God how
he sinned. Then, in the next chapter, he acknowledged how
frail humanity is compared to God’s power: He alone knows
the number of our days (14 v.5). Job was speaking out of
desperation; he did not understand why things happened the
way they did. He perceived God was angry with him, and he
acknowledged how painful life gets when a person becomes
God’s enemy—and he argued he was not God’s enemy. Yet,
though he did not receive an answer, Job fully acknowledged
how lowly humans are compared to God, and he expressed
how he would not want to be regarded as God’s enemy. If
anything, Job was asking God to set aside His anger. At
times, when you face affliction and it hurts you immensely,
you tend to ask God why such a thing happened. Often, it’s
these deep wounds that drive people away. But Job, even in
the face of desperation, never sinned by speaking ill of God
(see Job 1:22). Instead, Job professed that he still believed in
God and that he was “not godless” (see Job 13:16). Job did
not forget his place and instead appealed to God to be more
merciful in dealing with him. In your times of desperation,
when all things have turned against you, may you follow
Job’s example. May you keep seeking God, despite the
questions and the anguish weighing down on you. May you
ask to be forgiven, and may you continue to ask for His
guidance. In all these, may you always remember that He
alone is God and He alone is Sovereign. Through the
affliction, may you gravitate towards God instead of turning
away from Him, and may you be humble enough to
acknowledge your frailties.

in my hands, and my prayer is pure.” Job 16:15-17 ESV

Daily Devo: Eliphaz, one of Job’s friends condemned him,

accusing Him of doing something that stirred up God’s anger
(15 v.1-16). He told Job what happens to a wicked man, which
could explain what may have been happening to him
(v.17-35). Job replied to these accusations by showing
frustration to his friends because of their allegations, instead
of comforting him in his difficulties (16 v.1-5). Then, he spoke
to God about his ill feelings, how it has been heavy for him,
and continued to claim his innocence (v.6-22).

If there is someone who knows the very core of our being, it is

the Lord alone. Alam Niya ang mga pinakatatagong sikreto
mo, mga nagpapasaya, kalungkutan, galit, at ano pa man
‘yan.
Tinitingnan Niya
ang iyong gagawin. Patuloy ka bang magtitiwala at

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: Job is a dying man. His spirit was broken.
Misunderstanding with his friends saddened him. People
mocked him and approached to spit on him (v. 1-6). His
good years were behind him and his plans were broken. He
anticipated death and somehow it’s a hope that he waited for
where he can finally rest (v.11-14).

From being a righteous and obedient man to God, Job

somehow did not expect what he had experienced.
Hopelessness came to him, but his faith in God remained.

He was satisfied with the way he had lived and accepted that
some of his plans would not be completed. He took his death
as his hope to have a good rest.

Fate; Job’s Declaration: Asserting His Faith and Future
Vindication
10
Daily Verse: “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the
last he will stand upon the earth.” Job 19:25 ESV

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: In Job 18, Bildad responds to Job’s previous
words, accusing him of being arrogant and deceitful (v.1-21).
Bildad intended to instruct Job on the destiny of the wicked,
expecting that Job would perceive himself as being included
among the group that he described (v.5-6). He asserts that
wickedness leads to destruction and that Job’s suffering is a
result of his sin. Job replies in chapter 19, expressing his
desire to find an advocate in heaven and confessing his belief
in a redeemer who will one day vindicate him (v.23-29).

Bildad’s accusations and Job’s response in chapters 18 and

19 teach us that words can powerfully impact those who are
suffering. We must be careful with our words and not always
assume that someone’s suffering is a result of their sin.
Instead, we should seek to comfort and support those
struggling and point them toward God’s love and grace.
Learn to listen first to God and ask Him how you can best
help. You can offer a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, and
words of encouragement. Be quick to extend grace to others
and point them toward the hope you have in Jesus Christ.
May your words bring life and healing to those who are
hurting.

Job’s response in chapter 19 is a powerful declaration of his

faith in God’s redemption. He says in verse 25, “I know that
my redeemer lives and that in the end, he will stand on the
earth.” This prophetic statement points to the coming of Jesus
Christ, who will be the ultimate redeemer of all humanity. As
we face trials and tribulations, let us hold fast to the promise
of eternal life and redemption through our Savior, Jesus
Christ (see 1 Peter 1:3-5).

Man; Job’s Reply: Challenging Traditional Wisdom 11
Daily Verse: “How then will you comfort me with empty
nothings? There is nothing left of your answers but
falsehood.” Job 21:34 ESV

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: Zophar, Job’s friend, argued that wicked and
godless human beings have had their lives cut short. Their
children didn’t prosper and they were up to receive the
consequences of their sins (v.4-29). These words from
Zophar were implying that since Job was suffering this much,
he was also wicked and had failed God. Job disproved those
claims, by stating his personal anguish, that he experienced
exactly the opposite, and so regarded this as purely human
wisdom (21 v.34).

Zophar applied human wisdom to his suffering friend. He told

Job that all of these things happened because they were
paying the consequences of their sins. Zophar was not careful
to release his words to Job. He wanted to comfort him, but
Job resisted his statements. It was not a loving and consoling
thing that he should do to a suffering friend. How do we
convey words to those who need comfort?

There will be times when your loved ones or friends will

experience hardships. It is not your words or how you are
knowledgeable of the Scriptures that could take away their
pain. The godly thing that you can do is help them get
through the process by praying for them and being with
them.

Daily Devo: Eliphaz believed that God punished Job due to his

injustices to others (22 v.4-10). He required that Job should
reconcile with God and repent (v.21-30). Job wanted comfort
from his pains and wanted God to vindicate him (23 v.3-12).
Job affirmed his trust in God and accepted the test of his
faith like refining gold (v.10) and affirmed his confidence in
God (v.13-14).

When Job was on the verge of despair, he was accused by

Eliphaz. Like a child seeking his father, Job sought the Lord
but couldn’t find Him. With all honesty, he wanted to present
his plea to the Lord. Job believed that God knew his every
step and was confident that it shall come to pass. Job
endured all the aches and sorrows while passing through the
fire. He may go through the fire, but he will come out shining
like gold.

Do you have an Eliphaz in your life? Seek the Lord! Are you in
the shoes of Job? Seek the Lord! There is no turning back. God
has the ability to transform challenging experiences into
moments of great success. Job’s faith allows him to withstand
both fear and assurance.

Despite the accusations and his deep despair, Job tenaciously

sought the presence of the Lord, trusting in His knowledge of
every step and confident that justice would ultimately prevail.
Job’s unwavering faith allowed him to endure the trials as if
passing through a refining fire, emerging from the ordeal
shining brightly, like pure gold. This serves as a powerful
reminder that even in the face of immense adversity, one’s
trust in God can lead to transformation and triumph.

Contemplating Life’s Unfairness 13
Daily Verse: “Why are not times of judgment kept by the
Almighty, and why do those who know him never see his
days?” Job 24:1 ESV

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: In chapter 24, Job challenges the fairness of the
world and wonders why the wicked aren’t punished. He
observes that the wicked exploit the vulnerable, stealing their
livestock and crops (v.2-3). They oppress the poor and
needy, leaving them without shelter and food (v.4-8). Job
complains that the wicked do evil in secret, preying on the
helpless and ignoring the cries of the suffering (v.13-17). He
wonders why God does not intervene and punish the wicked,
longing for the day when justice will prevail and the wicked
will receive their due (v.23-24).

At times, life can throw a series of challenges at you. As such,

you may feel wronged, cry “injustice” or “unfairness,” or
question why others get away with wrongdoings or why these
people prosper despite greed and sin. God is a loving, but
also just, God. He sees everything that is happening. He may
let the wicked rest as though they become complacent, but
these people have no assurance in life, for God brings down
the wicked in His time. The Almighty sets the time for
judgment, just as He rewards the faithful. You wait not in vain
for the day of His judgment for the wicked but in the hope
that He knows what is to be done. For in abundance or need,
in joy or pain, your life in God has assurance.

You should not focus on comparing how difficult your life is

with the ease that the wicked are enjoying, for these are all
temporary. Find refuge, comfort, and hope in the fact that
God sees, He is just, and He is able. He can get you out of the
miry state you are in, just as He can tear down the mighty
with His power. Life may appear unfair, but remind yourselves
that in God’s time, justice and love will prevail.

my tongue will not utter deceit. Far be it from me to say that
you are right; till I die I will not put away my integrity from
me. I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go; my
heart does not reproach me for any of my days.” Job 27:3-6
ESV

Daily Devo: In Job 25, Bildad spoke about the impossibility of

man to remain righteous in life. Still, there has to be a reason
for him to sin because of his “innate” attribute to be one
(v.4b-6). In Job 26, Job continually disproves his friends’
argument. He considered all their wisdom as mere humanly
and he had nothing but contempt for all of these. He wanted
help or strength from them, not proof of fault regarding his
condition (v.1-2). In Job 27, he held on to his integrity that he
knew in his heart that he did not do any wrong to anyone else,
thus he was pure before God.

Job continually refuted his friend’s argument. Truly, as God

declared Job as righteous before Him is the same to what Job
knew in his heart. He was firm that his utmost desire was to
live to please God. What a unique and brave heart to say
that! Nowadays, no one could ever say or confess such firm
and righteous standing before God. Though Job was in agony
in every aspect, he committed himself to live and even die
with integrity and uprightness before God. Such great
reverence before the Almighty!

Job resolved in his heart not to lie—but will only speak the
truth. Regardless of what his 3 friends delare, Job claims
innocence. Regardless of others, don’t let go of our integrity.
Like Job, let us pursue righteousness, godlines, faith, love,

Understanding 15
Daily Verse: And he said to man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord,
that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’”
Job 28:28 ESV

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: Job ponders the enigma of wisdom and its
position in this chapter. The chapter unlocks by explaining
how people can get valuable assets such as gold and silver
through their knowledge and expertise, but actual wisdom is
considerably more difficult to obtain (v.1). He tells how
mankind looks for rich metals on the earth, but wisdom is far
more important and difficult to find (v.2). Job then uses a
deeper analogy to compare the search for the wisdom to
natural world investigation. Mankind must try to grasp the
truths of wisdom in the same way that they have learned to
traverse the oceans and explore the planet (v.4). He wonders
where wisdom can be discovered and concludes that it is
concealed from all living beings’ gaze. He talks about how
people can find valuable things like gold and silver, but
finding true wisdom is much harder (v.12-13).

Only God knows the path to wisdom, which He has bestowed

on those who fear Him. It is more valuable than any material
possession, and there are certain things that are beyond our
understanding. We can only fully understand circumstances if
we’re filled with a high reverence for God. Job’s words in Job
28 serve as a reminder that true wisdom cannot be gained or
acquired through human effort. It is a divine gift, and only
those who fear Him are truly wise.

Are you actively pursuing wisdom amidst your present

circumstances? Is it your desire to gain an understanding of
the events unfolding in your life? Take a lesson from Job, who
sought God as the ultimate and authentic wellspring of
wisdom.

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

ESV

Daily Devo: Job 31 is full of Job’s “from-the-heart”

profession of his innocence. He was certain to answer the
arguments made by his three friends. He declared his
innocence from lust (v.1-4) and that he had a righteous life
and moral uprightness. He didn’t deceive anybody, and he
was a man of integrity (v.5-8). He didn’t become unfaithful
to his wife (v.9-12), and he treated his servants with
compassion and goodness (v.13-15). Job had a good heart
for the poor (v.16-23). He was generally blameless and a
seeker of God (v.24-34). He knew without a doubt that he
lived a pleasing life before God. That is why, at the end of the
chapter, he demanded an audience from God (v.35-37). He
wanted to know the “why” of all that he was going through.
He would accept all of these, but He wished God would listen
and explain the reason behind his deep suffering.

We can often relate to Job. You thought in your hearts that

you had lived righteously, obeyed God’s commands and
precepts, revered Him, loved Him, and served Him. But when
troubles come your way, you demand an explanation from
God. God is very patient with you. He grants you the freedom
to openly express the depths of your heart without any
censorship. Just like what happened to Job. God is patient
enough to listen. Sometimes, you don’t need to understand.
What you need is to hold His hand.

kabataan.
Panginoon.

Job’s Complaints; Focus: Elihu’s Conclusion: The Greatness of
God
19
Daily Verse: “He does not keep the wicked alive, but gives the
afflicted their right.” Job 36:6 ESV

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: Chapters 35 to 36 were the rebuttals of Elihu to
Job’s complaints about the afflictions he was experiencing.
Elihu asserts in Job 35 that despite Job’s lamentations, God’s
justice is unaffected by human behavior (v.2). Elihu
emphasizes that God’s greatness surpasses human praise or
sin, and Job’s self-righteousness does not provoke a
response from Him (v.5-7). Instead, Elihu urges Job to seek
God’s wisdom and acknowledge His sovereignty to gain a
proper perspective on suffering and righteousness (v.14). In
Job 36, Elihu emphasized that God is mighty and just in His
dealings with humanity (v.5). He explains that God uses
various means, including discipline and suffering, to teach
and restore individuals, guiding them away from arrogance
and towards humility (v.10). Elihu was pointing out to Job
and to his three friends that whether Job lived a righteous or
wicked life did not affect God, but rather he himself would be
affected.

God deals with each man differently. Contrary to what Job

and his three friends believed, when they were good, they
received good things from God, and when they did bad
things, they reaped the bad consequences. This is not how
God operates. He does not despise anyone. Elihu pointed out
that the poor and the afflicted will be put on the throne
alongside the king and will also be exalted. The realities of
life are hard. Even the righteous people that God exalts can
also experience afflictions.

There are times you will experience pain, suffering, and many
difficulties in life. No matter how close you are to God, you
will not be exempt from all the afflictions that life has to
offer. Instead of asking “why,” ask the Lord for His grace
during those hard times.

through the storm: His voice through thunder and His visibility
through lightning. And when Job and his friends spoke as if
they knew well how God dealt with both the wicked and the
righteous, while Job asserted that God should treat the
righteous justly as he was one, it put God in a finite situation
contrary to His true attributes.

The chapter displays the vast power of God through the

natural phenomena that occur, like the storm. It is a
metaphor for the divine, who cannot be contained, for He is
beyond our capacity to understand because of His amazing
power. Moreover, that power comes with His justice and
righteousness, which delight people who fear Him. Elihu
presented an option on how a man can respond to God:
either you fear Him or be wise with your own heart.

It is very tempting to believe that you can do things on your

own, especially on matters concerning your freedom of choice
in life, because you think you know better than anyone else.
But when you reach a crossroads in your life or perhaps a very
challenging situation, you become anxious. Your trust in Him
(faith) determines the outcome of your choices, like what Job

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: Job 40 portrays God’s continued response to
Job’s questioning of His justice and power. In verses 1-5, God
challenges Job, reminding him of his limited understanding
and emphasizing the importance of humility. Job’s response
in verse 4 reveals his recognition of God’s greatness and his
acknowledgment of his own unworthiness. God then proceeds
to describe the Behemoth in verses 15-24 as a powerful
creature of immense strength and size. This description
underscores God’s dominion over creation and serves as a
reminder to Job of his place in the grand scheme of things.
Job’s encounter with God continues in the subsequent
chapters, leading to his eventual realization of God’s
sovereignty and his submission to Him.

After Job’s encounter with God in the previous chapters, his

relationship with God was restored. He saw his situation
through the lens of God. Contrary to his friends’ accusation,
God did not leave Job. He was there all along, protecting Job
from the harsh realities. He realized how big and magnificent
God is, who rules this world in balance. He realized that the
God who controls and cares for this universe was calling him
to see the need for harmony. In due time, all things will fall
into their proper order, including his concerns; God is very
mindful of him and his situation. In the end, Job must trust
and wait on God.

In the same way, you may have to question God in your

situation. No amount of explanation is enough if your heart is
not right with Him. Come to the Father’s heart, cry if you must,
and talk to Him like you are talking to your friend. He
understands, He cares.

pagsubok. Hinding-hindi Niya tayo pababayaan o iiwan

Reconciliation, and Renewal 24
Daily Verse: “And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job, when
he had prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as
much as he had before.” Job 42:10 ESV

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: When Job finally encounters God in Job 42, he is
astounded by His majesty and wisdom. He confesses his
ignorance and repents of his previous words (v.1-6). God
rebukes Job’s friends for their false accusations and instructs
them to seek Job’s intercession and forgiveness (v.7-9).
Job’s fortunes are restored twofold, and he is blessed with a
new family (v.10-17).

Job’s journey in the book of Job teaches us the importance of

trusting in God’s sovereignty and goodness, even in the midst
of great suffering and uncertainty. His questioning and
doubting of God’s ways serve as a reminder that it is okay to
bring our doubts and fears before God, but ultimately we
must submit to His will and trust in His character. Even when
we can’t see or feel His presence, we can rely on His promises
and the truth of His Word. As we walk through our own trials
and doubts, let us cling to God’s character and promises,
trusting that He is with us and will never leave us (see
Hebrews 13:5).

You can follow Job’s example and practice humility in your

own life, especially when faced with difficult situations or
questions that you cannot answer. You can admit that you
don’t know everything and trust in God’s wisdom and
sovereignty. You can seek to understand and learn from those
who have different perspectives and experiences instead of
arguing with or dismissing them. By doing so, you can
cultivate relationships that are characterized by grace,
compassion, and mutual respect.

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: The first chapter of the book discusses Job’s test
of faith, which God permitted. It happened as a result of
Satan’s challenge, which led Job to lose everything. From his
possessions to his children, everything was taken away from
him. It became the start of his period of suffering. Even so, as
a righteous servant of the Lord, Job’s first reaction was to
come to Him in praise.

As a child or youth, we are currently in the season of our lives

when we try to find our purpose and unlock the meaning
behind life, in general. It is a process of exploring your
potential and finding out who you are as a person. Yet in
doing so, you might find that things will not always go your
way. Pain can take different forms. It might manifest itself in
broken friendships, messy family relationships, rejection from
your chosen school, failure to achieve expectations, a poor
self-image, and many other ways. Sometimes our first
reaction would be to ask God, “Why?” It has become so easy
for us to doubt Him in times of hardship while failing to
appreciate His kindness for seeing us through our struggles.

To see triumph in our struggles, we must set our faces on the

Father’s grace. Like Job, learn to dwell not in the challenges
but in God’s sovereignty instead.

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: Whenever trials or problems strike us, only two
things usually happen: either they will make us or break us.
It’s easy to say that we just need to trust God, but to be
honest, as a parent, especially when your children are sick
and their lives are in danger or when they ask for something
and you can’t give it, perhaps you would think twice and
somehow ask God why all these things happen to you, or do
you deserve this, and why the burdens are so heavy.

These are just our natural reactions to the situation, and I

know God understands it and knows more than we do. We
learn from Job 1 that he never questioned God, but instead,
he even praised God (v.20-22). What composed and
unmovable faith Job had shown us!

Today, the happenings around us are sometimes

unpredictable. But one thing is sure: God is always in control
of our lives. Whether we are happy in the situation that we are
in or not, let us learn from the life and attitude of Job. As he
experienced the highest and the lowest of his life, he
remained steadfast and strong in his faith in God.
Remember, God, our Creator, owns everything, including our
lives and resources.

Triumph Through Adversity • June 2023 Devotional and Calendar

Daily Devo: The greatest difficulty in this life’s journey is
suffering. Following God does not exempt those who love God
from suffering. Job was a righteous man who served God his
entire life, and yet his children were killed, his possessions
destroyed, his health suffered, and even his relationship with
his wife crumbled (see Job 1:15-19). But not his confidence in
his God (v.21).

Job 1:21 was Job’s piercing roar to Satan, who was trying to
destroy his faith. Rather than cursing God amid his
misfortunes, Job acknowledged his limitations and God’s
sovereignty over his life. He concedes that everything he
gained came from God and forfeits his right to claim
anything God has given him. He knew he had no right to
question why God was taking everything away from him.

Satan’s disastrous attacks did not make Job turn his back on
God. It should be the same for us. Too much pain and
suffering can cause us to doubt God and focus on our
agonies. Remember, not even one of our sufferings happened
without God’s permission (see Job 1:12). Giving up is never an
option. You have tasted God’s goodness. Let not that memory
depart from you, even when you are burdened with severe
grief. Never forget who God is and what He has done and will
do in your life. Suffering is not always a direct result of sin,
nor is it always your fault. Even people who love God suffer.
God is not testing your faith to know how much you can bear.
God wants you to understand that in every trial, pain, and
suffering, He is with you, and not even for a single second will
He leave you alone. It is He who enables you to bear
everything because He wants you to overcome and experience
His love for you.

Daily Devo: Being sick with no assurance of healing is more

tormenting than losing material things. Going in and out of
the hospital, taking regular medication, and living a life that
is not normal is very agonizing. But sickness should not
always be associated with reckless lifestyles. It can be
congenital. Either way, physical pain and suffering are
tormenting and can create havoc in our daily lives.

Job 1:21 recognizes that Job’s pains were not penalties for his
wrongdoings, nor were they discipline for correction. Job’s
statement, “The Lord gave,” was a complete acknowledgment
that he had no right to question God. That whatever he has,
even his health, is from God. And that everything that may
happen in his life has to pass through his loving and wise
decision of God. Whatever happens, he has no right to
question God, as he acknowledged that it was God who gave;
therefore, God can take anything away when He wants.

The Book of Job is not about suffering and pain alone. Even if
the book showcased the financial, social, and physical
problems in his life, its main context is about the fact that in
real life, God does not act the way humans thought and
expected God would and should respond to our challenges in
life. God wanted to show us that through the life of Job, we
would understand why these challenging realities happen.
Job is blameless but not sinless. He is not perfect. He lives in
an imperfect world. With these thoughts in mind, Job knew
that however prolonged or uncertain his physical pain would
end, he was not supposed to curse God. Instead, he needs to
maintain his trust and confidence in his loving God. This book
is a good reminder for us that life starts and ends with God
alone. This life we live right now is not even ours; therefore, at
no point in our suffering should we question God.

Daily Devo: Job, a man who has endured immense hardship
and loss, humbly acknowledges God as the ultimate source of
all things and recognizes His power and authority to both give
and take away. He acknowledges God as the origin of
everything. Despite his profound suffering, Job maintains a
spirit of gratitude towards God, offering thanks even in the
midst of his trials. Job continues to give thanks in spite of his
suffering and the fact that he has nothing.

"Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?"

This question prompts us to recognize that God is ultimately
in control of all things and that His plans and purposes
transcend our understanding. Despite Job's profound loss
and suffering, he maintains his unwavering faith in God
because he understands that God has a specific purpose for
him, even using Job's trials to thwart the enemy's schemes
and ensure their ultimate failure. Job's story reminds us of the
mysterious ways in which God works and the importance of
trusting His sovereignty, even in the midst of life's greatest
challenges.

Every one of us will endure some level of suffering, but we

have a great God who will always show us how to overcome it.
Even in unpleasant circumstances, we must have faith to
understand God's purpose, even when we don't fully grasp it.
God will always provide a solution, even when there seems to
be none.

pagtitiyaga at pagsisikap.

At maaaring
buhay mo ang dumating, praise the Lord!
