Special Study - CHRIST’S PREVAILING POWER AND OUR

UNWAVERING FAITH
Mark 6:45-56; Matthew 28:18; Mark 12:24; Luke 4:14,32;
John 17:2; Acts 10:38; 1 Corinthians 1:24; James 1:5

As we read the whole passage, we will see some peculiar and specific things that
Christ did. He proved Himself to be Unique in Power, Performance and Operations.
Christ did and said what no other person that came before Him ever did or said.
We must always hold that uniqueness of Christ in our hearts: He walked on the
sea, turned water into wine, dried up the fruitless tree, calmed the raging and
stormy sea, multiplied bread to thousands, healed all that came to Him with His
word, raised the dead with the spoken word, ruled the sea and wind, and governed
the fish of the sea – said to Peter, catch that fish and with the money you take from
its mouth pay our taxes. As He walked on the sea, the disciples saw him and were
afraid, but he said to them, “Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.” Jesus is
different and unique. No man ever spoke like Him. ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the
Life’; ‘No man cometh unto the Father but by Me’; ‘I am the Bread of Life’; I am the
Resurrection and the Life’; ‘he that believes in Me shall never die’; ‘I and My Father
are One’; ‘he that has seen Me has seen the Father’; ‘I will rise the third day’. He
predicted it and indeed rose on the third day. No man ever said or did what He said
and did. That is our Saviour. Power to do all things was associated with Him from
His Birth to His death, to all the miracles that He did, and to all His encounters
with everyone, power was associated with Him. “And Jesus came and spake unto
them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” (Matthew
28:18). This is peculiar to Jesus. This is our Saviour, Sanctifier, Baptiser in the
Holy Ghost, and Power; power in everything He said or did. He knew the Scriptures
and that they would be fulfilled in Him with the power of God. Anytime we mention
the name of Jesus, power must accompany the mention of that Name (Mark 12:24;
Luke 4:14). The Name, Authority, Prayer, Salvation, Sanctification, Transformation,
Deeds, Words, and Doctrines of Christ are associated with Power. Whatever the
tribe, language or nation, the Heavenly Father has given Christ all power over all
flesh (John 17:2). Jesus, as our Saviour, Sanctifier and Substitute is associated
with Power. The Lord in His Death, Burial, Resurrection, and ongoing ministry, all
filled with His Power. If He lives in your heart, power lives in your heart and life. If
you have received and accepted Him as your Lord and Saviour, and He lives in your
life, then there will be power in your life. Christ is the Power of God, “But unto
them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and
the wisdom of God” (1 Corinthians 1:24). As Christ is full of power, His Name,
Authority, Message and Ministry communicate power to us, then we must have
unwavering faith in Christ. If anyone lacks salvation, holiness, love, blessing, or
spiritual gift, let him ask of God in faith without wavering and it shall be given unto
him (James 1:5-6).

1. HIS CONQUERING POWER OVER UNCOMMON TEMPEST

Mark 6:45-46; Matthew 14:22-23

“And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go
to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people” (Mark
6:45). We need to understand that whatever Jesus says, will surely come to pass.
Heaven and earth may pass away, but His word will never pass away. And since
He said, ‘go to the other side’; He will meet them there. He must meet you on the
other side, nothing will cut short your journey before you get to the other side. Hold
on to His word and promise. “And when he had sent them away, he departed
into a mountain to pray” (Mark 6:46). That is the Son of God, He has left a
perfect example for us to follow that we should live a life of prayer. Before, and after
any service, duty, or performance, spend time to pray like Christ. No matter the
contrary wind on the journey, they must still get to the other side, and you will get
to the other side no matter the contradiction of the winds against your life (Matthew
14:23-25).

(i) His Personal Prayer - Mark 6:46; 1:35; Luke 18:1-8; 21:36; 1 Thessalonians
5:17. He depended so much upon the Father that He prayed all the time. “And
when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray” (Mark
6:46). This was His lifeline and reason for his constant power; He prayed. This is
an example for us, that our lives should be marked with praying at all times,
without ceasing and with unwavering faith. Never allow any day to pass without
waiting upon the Lord in prayer. The Lord told the parable in Luke chapter 18
verses 1-5 to make us understand that importunity, constancy, and continuity in
prayer are very important and essential in a Christian’s life and ministry. We should
not miss our privilege of prayer. When we have asked and not received, we should
ask and demand from God again. Keep holding on to the promises and the Lord
will answer your prayer in Jesus’ Name. “And shall not God avenge his own elect
which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you
that he will avenge them speedily” (Luke 18:7-8). “Watch ye therefore, and
pray always……” (Luke 21:36). Don’t just pray occasionally when the water is
about to drown you, or when you are driven to the wall, but pray always. When you
are happy, pray to thank Him; for solutions to any problem, pray because He has
solutions to every problem. Pray always, daily and without ceasing (1 Thessalonians
5:17). Convert part of the time you spend in talkativeness and on things not
profitable to praying and your life will take on a new splendour, power, and
breakthrough in Jesus name. I pray that we will be doers of His word and spend
our time praying in Jesus’ Name.

(ii) His Prevailing Power - Mark 6:47-48; Psalms 93:3-4; 104:3. “And he saw them
toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them; and about the fourth
watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would
have passed by them” (Mark 6:48). When the wind is contrary to you, look away
from it and look unto Christ your Saviour, and He will uphold and carry you
through. He has prevailing power over the sea, storms, and every challenge of life.
Our problem is that we look too much at our circumstances, the frowning face of
an opposer, and things around us. But Christ was not looking at the contrary wind,
because it was not going to determine His destiny and decisions. He walked upon
the sea, and you will walk on your stormy sea. “Who layeth the beams of his
chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh
upon the wings of the wind” “The LORD on high is mightier than the noise
of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea. (Psalms 104:3; 93:4).
This is our God and Saviour; and if we will pray, answers and miracles will come.

(iii) Our Promised Privilege - Matthew 14:27-29; Psalms 107:27-30. As we follow

Jesus and look up to Him as the Author and Finisher of our faith, we will walk
through the contrary winds and we’ll get to the other side. “And Peter answered
him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water”
(Matthew 14:28). You will do it; contrary wind, bad situations, stormy sea, or
tempest, you will ride on them and make progress in Jesus’ Name. The Lord did
not refuse the request of Peter to walk on the sea, and you will walk on your sea as
well, the Lord will calm your storm (Matthew 14:29). “He maketh the storm a
calm, so that the waves thereof are still” (Psalms 107:29). That tempest will
be calm in your life. From tonight, you are entering your place of quietness and rest
in Jesus Name (Psalms 107:30).

2. OUR CAUSELESS PANIC WITH UNNECESSARY TORMENTS

Mark 6:49-50; 1 John 4:18; Psalms 53:5; 2 Kings 6:14-18; Deuteronomy
2:8,9,19; Numbers 22:2-6; Deuteronomy 23:3-5; Isaiah 37:6,36,38;
51:7,12-13; 2 Timothy 1:7; Hebrews 2:14-15; 13:5

Many times, we manifest unnecessary panic, fear, fright, anxiety, and torment and
get into trouble because of our supposition. Our interpretation gets us into trouble.
“But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a
spirit, and cried out” (Mark 6:49). There are times we see a situation in our lives,
and not knowing it is the Lord doing it, we attribute it to Satan, evil spirit, or an
enemy; and because of our supposition, we begin to cry, lose our appetite, and go
on compulsory fasting. “For they all saw him, and were troubled” (Mark 6:50).
They saw loving Jesus, Saviour, Friend, the One that the Father sent to them to
take them to Heaven; and they were troubled. He was not the cause of their trouble,
but their supposition. Many times in our lives we give wrong interpretations to
things happening, and the actions and reactions of people, and we become afraid.
Your fears are cancelled in Jesus’ name. Jesus said to them, “Be of good cheer:
it is I; be not afraid” (Mark 6:50). “There is no fear in love; but perfect love
casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made
perfect in love” (1 John 4:18). Christ loved them perfectly that was why He came
to save them. God loved them perfectly that was why He sent His Only Begotten
Son to save them. And God loves us perfectly with everlasting love, that is why He
sent His Son, the Holy Spirit, and His word to us. “There were they in great fear,
where no fear was” (Psalms 53:5). There was no reason, root, or consequence for
the fear. See some illustrations of this needless fear. The king of Syria had sent a
great host of horses and chariots at night to take Elisha, and when his servant
woke up and saw them he was afraid. Elisha however saw what he did not see.
“And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that
be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes,
that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he
saw; and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round
about Elisha.” (2 Kings 6:16-17). You will see beyond your fear; you will see the
Prince of Peace, Power, the Lord Jesus Christ and all the causeless panic will vanish
away. He that is in you is greater than he that is in the world. And all those chariots
of fire around you will not allow the enemies to get near you in Jesus’ Name.
The whole of Deuteronomy is a repetition of the history of the children of Israel from
the time they came out of Egypt till the time they almost got to the promised land.
And now as Moses rehearsed the history, he gave us the revelation that if the
Moabites knew what the Lord had said, they would not have been afraid. “And the
LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in
battle: for I will not give thee of their land for a possession; because I have
given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession” (Deuteronomy 2:9). The
children of Israel were not to touch, fight nor distress the children of Moab. Moab
and Ammon were children of Lot, and their descendants were the Moabites and
Ammonites, as the children of Israel were passing, God instructed them not to
distress, fight not take their lands. However, “And Moab was sore afraid of the
people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the
children of Israel” (Numbers 22:3). Moab’s supposition and assumptions brought
them personal, self-imposed distress. There was nothing to warrant them to call
Balaam to destroy Israel. The Lord will protect you, your family and everything you
have, and no evil hand will touch you. It was panic that made Balak send for Balaam
to curse the children of Israel. The consequence of that unnecessary fear was, “An
Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even
to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the
LORD for ever: Because they met you not with bread and with water in the
way, when ye came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against thee
Balaam the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse thee”
(Deuteronomy 23:3-4). Curse, yoke, and oppression causeless shall not come.
Nobody will destroy you (Deuteronomy 23:5). “And Isaiah said unto them, Thus
shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the
words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria
have blasphemed me” (Isaiah 37:6). Don’t be afraid of what you read, hear,
rumours or threatening; our God is in control. The Lord is telling you not to be
afraid; in a moment, all will be over. Why are you afraid of dead corpses, or of the
things you hear? All those things will come to nought. The Lord is on your side,
and He will help and protect you, and all those threats will turn to nothing in Jesus
Name (Isaiah 57:12-13). Fear is a spirit, and it works on the heart and soul of man
It weakens you in the inner man and gets to the brain, and it is not of God.
Whatever God has not given you will throw away. He has given you the spirit of
power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Fear will make you stop loving
people that you think are your problem, but you will not be afraid. You will not run
away from your husband’s house, or city, nor abandon the worship of God because
of unnecessary fear in Jesus Name. You know what the devil wants to do is to
detach you from the Source of power, so that he can handle you very well. Satan
brings the fear to make you run away from your God, but you will not run away
from your Redeemer. No fear will detach you from the Lord in Jesus Name. “So
that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man
shall do unto me” (Hebrews 13:6). The Lord is your Helper, Guide, Support and
Protection. He says to you, It is I, be not afraid. Fear is cancelled out of your life in
Jesus’ Name.
3. THE COMPASSIONATE PEOPLE WITH UNWAVERING TRUST
Mark 6:53-56

“And when they had passed over,” (Mark 6:53a) You see that the disciples got
to the other side eventually. Everything that the Lord had said about you will
happen; every promise that the Lord had given you will be fulfilled; and every place
that the Lord had ordained for you to get to, you will get there in Jesus Name. “And
when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him, And ran
through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds
those that were sick, where they hear he was.” (Mark 6:54-55). They were
compassionate, considerate, sympathetic people, and when they saw Jesus who
had the solution to every problem, they went and brought people unto Him. The
people knew that Christ had come. And Jesus is here tonight. Our Redeemer,
Saviour, Healer, Deliverer, Conqueror and Solution to every problem has come. And
you know that He is there by your side today. Whatever you ask in His Name, He
does it. The Lord has entered our church locations tonight, He got here before you
came and is waiting for you to call upon Him. “…. and as many as touched him
were made whole” (Mark 6:56). As the sick, incurable, weak ones, oppressed,
cursed, touch Him today, He will answer and heal them. Tonight is your night to
touch Him. In your spirit, soul, heart, mind, blood system, brain, and spiritual life;
you will be made whole.

Quotable Quotes from Pastor (Dr) W.F Kumuyi.

Jesus walked on the stormy sea, and you will walk on the storms of life. As we follow
Jesus and look up to Him as the Author and Finisher of our faith, we will walk
through the contrary winds and we’ll get to the other side.

Convert part of the time you spend in talkativeness and on things not profitable to
praying and your life will take on a new splendour, power, and breakthrough in
Jesus name.

He must meet you on the other side, nothing will cut short your journey before you
get there. Jesus must meet you on that other side. Hold on to His word and promises.

Many times, we get into trouble because of our supposition.

Everything that the Lord had said about you will happen; every promise that the Lord
had given you will be fulfilled; and every place that the Lord had ordained for you to
get to, you will get there in Jesus Name.

When the wind is contrary to you, look away from it and look unto Christ.

Don’t be afraid of what you read, hear, rumours or threats, our God is in control.
