Emergency Medical Responder

Course provides the knowledge and skills that are necessary in an emergency
to help sustain life, reduce pain, and minimize the consequences of injury or
sudden illness for those functioning as a member of the health care team in a
pre-hospital setting.

Course is for those providing a professional level of emergency response


including firefighters, law-enforcement officers, and emergency medical
services personnel. Includes CPR level HCP and AED. Meets the Paramedic
Association of Canada National Occupational Competency Profiles for the
practitioner level of emergency medical responder (EMR).

Minimum 80-120 hours (depending on jurisdiction); 40-60-hour upgrade course for current Red
Duration
Cross First Responders or equivalent

Instructor Red Cross Advanced Emergency Care Instructor or Emergency Care Instructor Trainer

Prerequisites Standard First Aid with CPR Level C

100% attendance, skills demonstration, 2 evaluated scenarios, and 80% min. passing grade on
Completion
written exam

Certification 3-year certification in Emergency Medical Responder, CPR Level HCP, and AED

Recertification 40 hours; includes CPR Level HCP
