Potential Difference
A battery or cell provides the push needed to make the charge move around the circuit. This
push is called potential difference.
The potential difference in circuits are measured in volts by a voltmeter.
Potential difference can be described as a force causing current to flow.

Potential Rating

Circuit components have a rating. This tells us the potential difference that a component is designed
to work at and no higher.

Voltage or Potential Difference.

Although these two terms mean the same thing, it is better to talk about potential difference. This is
because as batteries 'lift the charges up', these charges 'fall' through the components. Voltmeters
measure the size of the drop.

Independent Variable - What I change

Dependent Variable - What I measure
Control Variable - What I keep the same

Overview
The potential difference is the push (normally from a battery or cell) of a circuit.
Potential difference is measured in volts using a voltmeter. A component has a rating,
which is the p.d. the component is designed to work at and no higher.
P.d. in a series circuit is shared between components.
P.d. in a parallel circuit are the same across components as the battery.
