Guidelines for Presentation (20% - 10% Fall/10%Winter)

For your presentation, read the assigned texts carefully first, then, prepare notes for yourself and a
Power Point presentation for the class.
Your presentation must have the following:
a. A short bio of the author(s).
b. A summary of the readings.
c. Your critique of the arguments, research, methodology and/or other content in the texts.
d. Discussion questions for the class.

Prepare FIVE discussion questions, which you think may be interesting/engaging for the class to
discuss. These questions should help:
1. Raise critical issues in the readings.
2. Highlight theoretical debates in the text and point out relevant scholars and issues that
they are theorizing about.
3. Examine the structure of the argument and the form and the content of the readings -
the way they are written, their methodologies, their forms of presentation, and so on.
4. Connect the topic of your presentation/readings to current events and news.
5. Ask students to connect the topic to their own lives and/or other interests.
6. Connect the readings to course materials, earlier readings, relevant discussions and/or
lectures in the course.
7. Demonstrate your independent understanding of the readings.

8. The day of your presentation, you will be expected to present and lead the
students in the second half of the class.
9. You can choose to present in any way you wish to but do plan to lead the class
discussion.
10. Your task is to help us discuss the readings in depth, raise questions about them and
develop insights into course topics through them.
11. Please try to keep the conversation going, connect between different students’ points,
and make sure that all students participate in discussion led by your presentation.

Finally, please make sure to submit a TWO page summary of your presentation at
the end of the class.

You will be graded together on how best you demonstrate the above, especially points 1-8.
