Bodyport’s Virtual Cardiac Clinic is determined to

Eliminate Cardiovascular Diseases:

What do they do?

Bodyport is a health digital company focused on launching a virtual cardiac
clinic that brings intelligent interventions to its remote monitoring technology.
Bodyport scale detects cardiac signals through the user’s feet and monitors
cardiac biomarkers, hence making daily monitoring easy and error-free. Key
cardiovascular metrics combined with bodyweight enables health assessment,
improved monitoring, and better intervention. Bodyport detects changes,
personalize interventions, and optimize care and coaching

Why does it matter?

Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide for both genders. Despite
being largely preventable, cardiovascular diseases continue to top the list in
terms of mortality and morbidity, as well as financial cost. As described by co-
founder and CEO of bodyport Corey Centon,
“Despite the fact that cardiovascular disease is largely preventable, it remains
the leading global cause of death; We’re focused on changing the way
patients and care teams manage heart disease.”

Bodyport is determined to change the flow. Their mission is to prevent and

ultimately eliminate heart disease by empowering every person with high-
quality, actionable health information in their home.

Nutrition:

Calanus Oil Supplements are helpful for Omega-3

Fatty acids increase:

Calanus Oil Supplementation (extracted from copepods) can increase the

levels of omega-3 fatty acids in your body, according to a study in Germany.

“This is the first study to show that intake of 2 g [calanus oil] over a period of
12 weeks significantly improves the O3I in elderly participants engaging in a
moderate exercise intervention while exercise alone did not affect the O3I,”
they wrote in the British Journal of Nutrition.

The Omega-3 Index measures the level of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids in
red blood cell membranes, expressed as a percent of total fatty acid, and an
index of 8-12% is an indicator of better overall health. Index in the 8-12% range
may help to maintain heart, brain, eye, and joint health.
Sourced from copepods;
Calanus oil is extracted from the copepods of the same name, Calanus
finmarchicus. Calanus oil contains the omega-3s predominantly in the wax
ester form (the oil is slightly viscous). Wax esters are historically associated
with a penguin, seal, and whale oil, but are being produced by Norwegian
company Calanus AS from C. finmarchicus.

Exercise

Four laws of Muscle:

Van Loon, an “extraordinary professor” of exercise physiology and nutrition at
Maastricht University in the Netherlands, described some data from a newly
published study at a conference in 2012. After a study conducted on old and
frail people and succeeding in making them pack new muscle, he was confident
and described four laws of muscle.

“I usually put this in more obscene language,” van Loon says, “but you can
mess up a lot more in one week than you can improve in six months of
training.”

For anyone who seeks to push their limits, here are the highlights.

You Are What You Just Ate:

According to his study, they incorporated protein into a cow. They found out
that the protein was incorporated in cows muscles just after 2 hours of
ingesting, over 50% of protein incorporated into circulation, and 11% new
muscle. So he points out that we rebuild 1 to 2 percent of our muscle daily and
a whole of us every two to three months. So you are what you ate, and you can
perfectly rebuild great muscles by checking what you eat.

If You Exercise First, You’re More of What You Just Ate

Amino acids are thought of as the building blocks of protein, that is true, but
they play a dual role in muscle growth. In addition to being a source of raw
material, they act as a signaling molecule, triggering new muscle growth. One
crucial amino acid, leucine, seems to be the most potent anabolic signaler. In
a study, they injected 40 grams of protein to their subjects while they sleep,
and boom! It showed results.
But the best way is to exercise before you eat, and your muscles become more
sensitive to protein signals. “You can’t study food without exercise, and you
can’t study exercise without food,” van Loon says. “There’s a synergy between
them.”

If You’re Inactive, You’re Less of What You Just Ate

Unfortunately, some factors are making your muscles less sensitive to protein
signaling. Getting older and staying inactive are among them; that is why these
people require more protein supplements to signal muscle growth. In an
experiment, the immobilization of a leg for five days caused a 3.5 percent
reduction in the cross-sectional area of the quadriceps. So if you are inactive,
you are not boosting muscle growth. Instead, you are making it slow.

Chew Your Food

This one does not rank up as some eternal law, but studies showed that older
adults who retain their teeth and chew food have more muscle. The body
position also matters; when you eat lying down, you slow protein digestion and
reduce muscle buildup.
So your mom was right, sit up straight, eat protein-rich meals three times a day
and get plenty of exercises.

Mental Health

Live in the Moment, but Plan ahead:

A recent North Carolina State University study finds that people who manage
to balance living in the moment with planning for the future are best able to
work daily stresses without being distracted and consumed by worries of past
or future.

"It's well established that daily stressors can make us more likely to have a
negative affect or bad moods," says Shevaun Neupert, a professor of
psychology at NC State and corresponding author of a paper on the recent
work. "Our work here sheds additional light on which variables influence how
we respond to daily stress."

Mindfulness is when people are centered and living in the moment, rather than
dwelling in the past or worrying about the future. Proactive coping is when
people plan for the future, which makes them free of future worries. Being in
the present moment, or the “here and now,” means that we are aware and
mindful of what is happening at this very moment and enjoy that specific
moment. We are not distracted by the mistakes of the past or worries of the
future, but centered in the here and now. Being present-minded is crucial as it
is the key to staying healthy and happy. It helps you fight anxiety, cut down on
your worrying and rumination, and keeps you grounded and connected to
yourself and everything around you.
