A. Provide a brief description of the movie.

B. Name two characters that inspired you most in terms of the roles they portrayed.
1. Cesar Montano as Jose Rizal
He fought for the nation's freedom and independence through his
bloodless revolution through the power of a pen. He stated that the only thing
that makes us Filipinos free is education, not revolution. Despite the fact that
his works cost him his life, Rizal was able to incite nationalism, spread his
message, and educate people about the world around them which is
ultimately motivating and enabling them to take action against an oppressive
regime. Like Rizal, the ideas and messages we spread should be used to
educate, motivate, and empower the people. And despite his struggles in jail,
he persisted in striving hard and making sacrifices because of his love and
care for the Filipino people.
2. Pen Medina as Paciano (Eldest brother of Jose Rizal)
He put a lot of effort into finding ways to pay for his brother's study
abroad fees. He was the driving force behind Rizal's decision to pursue his
studies abroad. He had a great deal of faith in him and recognized his
potential, as well as the admirable qualities of intelligence, bravery, and
resolve that could be used to save his country through his writings and
intellectual revolution, which were to our mutual benefit. Along with sending
money frequently to Spain, he would also write letters to his younger brother
informing him of the abuses committed by friars in the Philippines. He was a
supporter of the Katipunan as well and subsequently joined its Revolutionary
Army as a general.

C. Provide 2 depictions from the movie which could be related to nationalism.

D. Describe how Rizal was depicted in the film
 The film depicted Rizal's genuine life story from his early years in the
hamlet of Calamba to his execution in 1896. With the help of the
costumes he donned, the actor depicted the young Jose Rizal in all of
his glory and failure. They also demonstrated how amorous Rizal was.
Because of the brief passage in the film where Crisostomo Ibarra is
depicted, we know it is fiction, but the movie manages to make it seem
real to us thanks to the happenings, details from Rizal's biography, and
the acting prowess of the actors. Additionally, it revealed Rizal's
innermost desire to defend his nation against atrocities committed
against Spaniards.

E. Enumerate and describe two other major characters in the film:

1. The Spanish attorney Luis Taviel de Andrada, who is also the brother of Rizal's
bodyguard, defended Rizal by claiming that the claims were unfounded.
2. The older brother of Rizal, Paciano Mercado, was raised watching the clergy's
and the Spanish colonial government's abuses. At a very young age, he awakened
Rizal to all the injustices in their country and assisted Rizal in learning about and
combating those injustices.

F. Provide a scene in the film that contradicts your understanding based on your
readings or knowledge relative to Philippine history and Rizal's life, works, and
writings. Explain the Contradictions.

Scene in the film: In one scene, Rizal was shown to be a traitor to the Philippines
who collaborated with the Spanish colonizers to put an end to the Filipino
revolution.

Explanation: This would go against historical evidence that shows Rizal to be a

fervent supporter of Philippine independence which the Spanish government even
viewed as a threat due to his revolutionary beliefs.
