CRT Exam Test Answers
1.(D) - A positive test is indicated when a 20% decrease occurs in the patient's FEV1 after the inhalation of
methacholine (Provocholine®), a drug that tends to cause bronchoconstriction when inhaled.
2.(B) - If air or fluid is present, the illumination of the light will be much greater than it would be normally.
3.(E) - Detection of a myocardial infarction would be done by using a twelve-lead EKG.
4.(D) - It is recommended that the E-T tube be pulled at peak inspiration, not expiration.
5.(B) - With carbon monoxide poisoning the pulse oximeter is not able to distinguish oxyhemoglobin from
carboxyhemoglobin. A higher saturation will be the result rather than the true oxyhemoglobin reading.
6.(D) - The umbilical cord consists of one vein and two arteries.
7.(C) - The Carbon Dioxide Challenge Test is particularly useful in determining the effects of carbon dioxide on
patients with decreased ventilatory drive to carbon dioxide.
8.(C) - A beta agonist inhaler should be used before using a corticosteroid inhaler if both kinds of inhalers are
used. This opens up the airways so the corticosteroid can go deeper into the lungs.
9.(A) - Unsynchronized cardioversion is used in the emergency situation during a ventricular fibrillation or
pulseless ventricular tachycardic episode.
10.(D) - The most important social support system for the majority of people is a person's family.
11.(A) - Patients should abstain from the use of sympathomimetic drugs for 12 hours before testing.
12.(C) - Transillumination is not used to determine IRDS (infant respiratory distress syndrome).
13.(B) - While wearing the monitor, the patient should be instructed to follow their normal routine and not avoid
stress, work, or exercise.
14.(B) - Early complications of extubation may include larnygospasm, subglottic edema, sore throat, glottic
edema, and aspiration of secretions.
15.(D) - The most common complication resulting from UAC placement is thrombus formation on the catheter
tip which may lead to decresed blood circulation to one of the legs.
16.(C) - Elevated serum bilirubin levels do not appear to affect pulse oximeter readings. Elevated levels in the
blood result in a jaundiced appearance in the patient where the skin turns yellow.
17.(A) - Room air carbon dioxide levels are approximately 0.03%.
18.(E) - Cromolyn sodium - (Intal) is not a corticosteroid but a mast cell inhibitor.
19.(C) - Synchronized cardioversion is delivered automatically by the defibrillator after a R wave is recognized
on the EKG rhythm.
20.(B) - A pulse oximetry reading of 90% would approximate a Pa02 reading of 60 mmHg.
