Psychologist have been postulating theories and some of this principle of psychology are

used by clinicians to aid in patient’s treatment, below are applications of some

principles of Psychology. The two principles of psychology we will be focusing on here

are Memory and Personality Theory of Psychology.

In certain cases of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or even amnesia people have been

noted to have either permanent or temporal memory loss which are mostly permanent.

In cases like these the patient will have to be taken through a memory recovery therapy

which makes good use of how to recover or retrieve memory as taught in psychology.

This has proven to be successful as some patients completely recover their memory and

go back to living their normal lives.

Bipolar Disorder, also known as manic depression, is a disorder associated with episodes

of mood swings ranging from depressive lows to manic highs. The exact cause is

unknown. One known treatment of Bipolar Disorder is psychotherapy, and the method

used by psychologists is the memory method. The person is trained to focus on

memories made by the wanted side hence will always stay on that particular side.

As a clinician, knowing the personality of your patient may go a long way to improve and

hasten treatment. Also, as the famous John Donne once said, “No man is an Island”. In

the medical practice, a group of clinicians will have to work hand in hand to treat

patients and one main way of achieving that goal is for clinicians to know themselves

intimately so as to be able to work as a team in other to achieve success and this all

boils down to knowing the personality and character traits of the person.

In certain instances, as a clinician, you need to know the personality of your patient in

other to conclude if some traits are usual or unusual. In a situation where an extrovert

patient is quiet, one can conclude that something is wrong. On the contrary, when an

introvert patient is quiet it is seen as normal as compared to when an extrovert patient

is quiet. This knowledge can help doctors diagnose patients.

In given treatment regimens, clinicians should know the personality of the patient, for

instance, asking an introvert patient to interact with people more might be a Herculean

task, hence will not prove to be effective.

The various principals of psychology coupled with clinical practice always go a long way

to restore not only the health but also the social activities of the patient and so all

clinicians should endeavor to add a touch of principals of psychology to their practice.

We should be aware that not every problem requires drugs too. Thank you.
