TISSUES AND MICROSCOPY
Introduction

Histology since 1980s became the best way for the study of tissues. It consists of
making slices of different parts of the body and dyeing them to make the cells
arrangements and shapes visible.

Nowadays, this technique is used in biology and medicine to identify damages,

infections and to study different body structures using light microscopy.

Don´t forget that the

microscopy is
composed of several
parts that allow us to se
beyond the capacity of
our eyes, using different
lens and a light source
(In this case).

Objectives:
• Identify tissues present in the human body.
• Contrast the tissues observed and the function that they have in the
human body.

Procedure
Draw the samples prepared and write the magnification in which it was
observed (4X, 10X, 40X)

1 Skeletal muscle - Magnification: ____ 2 Cardiac tissue - Magnification: _____

3 Cartilage - Magnification: _____ 4. Brain tissue - Magnification: _____

4. Imagine that you are hired to work in a hospital to identify damages in the
tissues. You must identify an irregularity in one of the samples that you saw.
Choose one of the samples and draw what would you expect to see.
