ISTANA BUDAYA DANCE SYNOPSIS

MALAYSIA’S MULTI-RACIAL POPULATION BRINGS RICHNESS OF DIVERSITY TO THE


NATION. THIS RICH HERITAGE HAS PERMEATED INTO ALL FORMS OF MUSIC AND
DANCE. AS WE SEE IT TODAY. SOME TRADITIONS HAVE BEEN PRESERVED WHILE
OTHERS HAVE BEEN MERGED AMONG SOCIETIES.

1. Overture (KesultananMelayu)

This dance symbolizes the Malaysian harmony welcomes guests. Its symbols the country rule
under the leadership Cover King And motion silat is the way to welcome and invite guests come
to Malaysia. Wearing songket is a traditional dress clothes Malaysia, which is made from hand
embroidery. Its all about the tradition and culture of Malaysians of all races.

2. Zapin Dance

Zapin is a folk dance of Malaysia that had distinctive character of the Mid-Eastern musical
influence. There are numerous forms of Zapin dances and it varies from state to state. Said to
be inspired by the ebb and flow of the tide and the lives of fishermen, the dance has many
unexpected movements like a rotation of the body from the waist followed by a sudden
accented, sharp and held movement of the arms and shoulders. The music for Zapin comes
from an ensemble of traditional instruments which include the Gambus(Lute), Marwas (gypsy-ty
bongos) and the violin.

4. Chinese Dance -

Most of Chinese dances originated in the mainland of China. It began with the arrival of the
merchants who brought with them their arts of dancing. Most of their dances are meant to bring
success and prosperity and others are meant to celebrate certain occasion. The Fan dance is
normally performed during the festive seasons. This dance still maintain its original movements
with pretty maidens holding and swaying paper fan in their hands.

5. Devdas

This dance are represent Indian society in Malaysia who inspired by mega movie entitle
Devdas. According to this film, Devdas makes his way back home to India after spending 10
years studying in London. He plans to marry Paro, his childhood best friend, but his parents
do not want Devdas to marry her. They believe that Paro's family, who descend from a line
of dancers, is of a lower class than their own. Eventually, Paro marries another man, and
the despondent Devdas descends into suffering.

7. Mengiluk

An ethnic dance from Sabah on The Land Below The Wind with enticing beat and choreography
featuring dance engaging in teasing each other. Mengiluk is the dance of the Suluk Tribe that
formally live along the coastal plain of Sabah.

8. Datun Julud

Datun Julud is the native dance of the people of Sarawak well known as the land Hornbill. It is
welcoming dance performed by maiden holding the kenyalang feathers in both hand. Normally it
is performed often a warriors return from a war.

11. Dekat Jer

"Dekat Je," loosely translated as "close by" is the official tourism song aims to remind

to visit.

12. Malaysia Year Festival (Myfest)

The dance culminates with dancers singing the song to promote Malaysia and to pay their
tribute to this rich and blessed country. Truly Malaysia is the soul and essence of Asia and if you
come to see Malaysia you have seen the whole of Asia.
