Tradisional dance “PAMONTE”


Pamonte dance is a tradisional dance of the kaili tribe in the central sulawesi region. En general,
the pamonte dance is perfomed by women from kaili tribe wearing farmer-style clothing. The
pamonte dance depicts and habits of women from kaili tribe during harvest time. The pamonte
dance has been around and known to the people of central sulawesisince 1957. The native son of
the central sulawesi region, named Hasan. M. Bahasyuan is the figure who created the pamonte
dance.
The pamonte dance is inspired by the activies and habits of kaili girls when welcoming the rice
harvest season. In ancient times, the majority of the kaili tribe worked as farmers, so they usually
welcomed the harvest season with joy and happiness. The pamonte dance also depicts joy and
expression of gratitude for the harvest they got.
Wearing typical clothing like farmers, dancers dance with distinctive movements following the
accompanying music. The number of dancers pamonte is usually presented with odd number of
dancers, namely 9,13,17,21 and the leader called Tadulako. Tadulako in the dance has the role of
dance leader and give instructions to other dancers. The pamonte dance has distinctive
characteristic. Where the dancers wear hoods and shawls as well as pasau clothes or long sleeved
blouses.

Conclusions
Pamonte has become a tradition for kaili people to welcome the havest season. This dance needs
to preserved because it has become a legacy passed down our ancestors until now.
