1. What are your thoughts on the claim of Mansfred Steger that: a. ‘Nobody is in
Charge of Globalization’- the third core claim of globalization by Mansfred Steger.
According to Robert Hormats, vice chairman of Goldman Sachs, no one has the
authority over the beauty of globalization, meaning every individual is not in control
of globalization (Heyyyyyy121211). We are of one mind with Steger because
globalization is just a steady process that occurs since the past centuries. Thus, no one
is in charge of globalization, it's not the economist of the country, it's not the
president and it's not the ordinary people, it's literally no one. Truth is, it's just the
people, institutions, technology, countries and world connections which contribute
inputs to the process and it is just a matter of doing one's duty in order to attain
globalization. b. The sixth core claim of Mansfred Steger is ‘Globalization requires war
on terror’. In my own perspective, to attain globalization, a country needs to fight for
liberty and independence. A belligerent response for enforcing democracy and
freedom such as using weapons is a good way to stand as a country not under rulers,
not under colonizers, but under an independent good governance with unity.
Although colonization can give benefits in some ways, it is important to be strong and
independent for building a progressive globalized country. War against colonizers can
be a better option for sustaining the key characteristics of an orderly world where
every country has political stability and economic freedom for the expansion of wealth
and prosperity in the world.
2. As a Filipino, where are we as a country in terms of globalization?
The most dominating challenge in a particular country is coping with
globalization. It is defined as the growing interdependence of the world economies,
cultures and populations, in trading goods, services, information, etc. (piie.com).
Globalization is significant because it produces huge benefits in terms of accessing
technology, accessing natural resources, opening global supply chains, and expanding
markets between countries in a less complicated way. The Philippines is globalized for
it progressively integrated with the global economy, where there is an increase in the
trade of goods, labor migration, and greater finance. (Diwa C. Guinigundo²). However,
the Philippines is still working on technological, socioeconomic, political and
environmental developments. If I would rank the country in terms of globalization, it's
in the middle because the Philippines already has a global connection but still belongs
to the developing countries. Globalization supports new job opportunities, yet the
country has the unemployment rate that reached up to 6.6% as of December 2021
(fxempire.com) and in the field of communication internet connections is one of the
most issues that need immediate actions. But it doesn’t mean that we don't have the
chance to have economic and technological advancement in the country as the years
come and go.
