AMASI LENS
INTERNATIONAL LIVE PROGRAM

We, at AMASI, recognize the significance of exchanging knowledge and best practices
among medical professionals to advance surgical techniques and enhance patient care.
In pursuit of this goal, we have launched AMASI LENS - a platform that brings together
global experts in the field to conduct live surgeries, providing invaluable educational
opportunities for aspiring surgeons.

This is first of its kind, initiated by AMASI and is scheduled monthly every 3rd Thursday
and streamed on www.televersity.org. First live demonstration by AMASI Lens was
successful and was viewed by surgeons from 25 countries.

THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TELECAST

4K format transmission with HD quality videos with multiple streaming formats for
seamless experience.
Live demonstration of advanced laparoscopic techniques by surgeons from different
countries every month.
Sessions will be moderated by expert surgeons from across the globe

We eagerly anticipate the enthusiastic involvement of laparoscopic enthusiasts, as their

active participation will greatly contribute to the continuous progress and evolution of
laparoscopic surgery. Together, we aim to advance the field and bring about positive
changes in patient outcomes and surgical techniques.

LIVE SURGERY WORKSHOP
First Surgery on Inguinal Hernia eTEP
Second Surgery on Incisional Hernia eTEP +/- TAR

EXPERTS COMMENTS AND DISCUSSION DURING THE LIVE DEMONSTRATION

Q&A throughout the procedure

QUIZ COMPETITION WILL BE HELD AT THE END

ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

eTEP for inguinal and incisional hernia carries many advantages over IPOM plus.
Laparoscopic Abdominal wall reconstruction has become the standard of care, eTEP
achieves faster recovery and reduced recurrence rates. Loss of domain hernias can also
be successfully managed by enlarging the peritoneal capacity with the help of external or
internal component separation. Mesh reinforcement is done in retrorectus or extra fascial
space. It is economical, standard polypropylene mesh is used and mechanical fixation is
avoided. RCTs comparing IPOM plus and eTEP have shown more advantages in favour of
eTEP.

Due to technical difficulty eTEP not widely adopted. Now techniques have been
standardised. This live demonstration provides opportunities to learn and technical tips
will be demonstrated and discussed during the procedure.

ABOUT THE SURGEON

Dr. C Palanivelu introduced laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair TAPP for the first time in
India at Coimbatore in 1992 and Totally extraperitoneal approach for
inguinal hernia in 1995. He presented the first series of laparoscopic defect closure in 721
cases of incisional ventral hernias in the American Hernia Society in 2005 and later
published his experience in the hernia journal.

This technique was widely appreciated, and later prof Kukleta named this technique as
laparoscopic IPOM plus.
“Palanivelu C, Jani KV, Senthilnathan P, Parthasarathi R, Madhankumar MV, Malladi VK. Laparoscopic sutured closure with mesh
reinforcement of incisional hernias. Hernia. 2007 Jun;11(3):223-8. doi: 10.1007/s10029-007-0200-0. Epub 2007 Feb 13.
PMID: 17297570”

He was also the first to introduce laparoscopic repair for divarication recti.
“Palanivelu C, Rangarajan M, Jategaonkar PA, Amar V, Gokul KS, Srikanth B. Laparoscopic repair of diastasis recti using the 'Venetian
blinds' technique of plication with prosthetic reinforcement: a retrospective study. Hernia. 2009 Jun;13(3):287-92.
doi: 10.1007/s10029-008-0464-z. Epub 2009 Feb 12. PMID: 19214651”
With personal experience of over 500 eTEP repairs for incisional hernias, his technique is
simple and easy to adopt in clinical practice.
