Ethical Egoism

Reporter: Good day, everyone! I am and I would like to share

with you my idea of how ethical egoism is being done in a moral dilemma or moral
situation.

First situation:
Narrator: During the surge of pandemic in year 2020, the authorities limits the people
who can go outside of the house to buy the supplies for the family.

Daughter: Mommy, can you buy me instant noodles? I am craving that for days.

Mom: Okay, nak. Aalis na rin ako to buy our supplies, alright? Bye.

Narrator: At the market..

panahon ngayon.

Mom: Pasensiya na talaga, kailangan din kasi namin ‘to eh.

Second situation:
Narrator: In the circle of friends Mia, they were all classmates in a class. Before the
examination, all of them were reviewing from their notes and lessons. One time, Mia was
called by her teacher to come to the office.

Teacher: Hi, Mia. Since the examination is near, I would like to ask you if you can share
this reviewer to your classmates?

Mia: Yes po, Ma’am. Okay lang po.

Teacher: Okay, thank you.
sila.
Mia: Sige po, Ma’am. Makakarating po.

Narrator: While Mia is walking to the corridor and thinking..

Narrator: After the examination..

Teacher: Class, I’m really disappointed with the results of your exam. I provided the
reviewer but still most of you did not meet the passing score?

One of the classmates: Ma’am, wala pong nakarating na reviewer sa amin.

Teacher: How come na wala? I handed it to Ms. Mia to share it with you. What
happened?

One of the classmates: Ma’am wala po kaming natanggap kahit isa.

Teacher: Mia, what’s the meaning of this?

Teacher: What the? Come to the office now.

Explanation:

Based on the video, there are two scenarios are narrated on how ethical egoism applied
in real-life situations. The first thing is the selfish decision of the mother to buy all the
remaining stocks of noodles for the cravings of her daughter despite the needs of the
other lady at the market. This lady can only afford the noodles and she went to other
stores looking for instant noodles to feed up her family. Unfortunately, the mother has
the selfish act of buying all the stocks instead of leaving some of them. In this case,
ethical egoism is shown where the mother left behind the plea of the other lady to spare
her some noodles.

While in the second scenario, Mia was eaten by her self-interest to get high scores in the
examination over her classmates. She is trusted by her teacher to share the review with
the class but she kept it to herself and lied about the loss of the reviewer. It
demonstrates how ethical egoism works in real-life situations where it dominates a
selfish act and leaving behind the sake of other people.
