1. What can you say about the implementation of Mother Tongue as the medium of
instruction from kindergarten to Grade 3?
Answer:
“Okay man, may jan man nga madalum nga words, may jan man nga maintindihan
man ka mga bata.”
Translation: It's okay; there are some deep words and some words that a child can
understand.

2. Was it successful? Why or why not?


Answer:
“Yes, successful man kay ang mga studyante madasig macatch-up and lesson kung
native language ang ginagamit.”
Translation: Yes, it is also successful because students can easily grasp the lesson if
the native language is used.

3. What are its strengths and weaknesses?


Answer:
“Ang strengths ka mother tongue, madasig ma intindihan, ang ana weaknesses, may
jan gawa nga words nga indi maintindhihan.”
Translation: The strengths of mother tongue are that it is easy to understand;
however, the weaknesses are that there are some words that are slightly difficult to
understand.

4. Do you agree that a child must be taught using his or her first language before
introducing other languages such as English and Filipino?
Answer:
“Yes, agree ako. It’s because para nga madasig maintindihan ka mga kabataan ang
native language antes mag gamit ka English kag Filipino.”
Translation: Yes, I agree; it's because the child's native language was completely
understood before using English and Filipino.

5. Do you think MTB-MLE will affect a child’s proficiency in his or her second language?
Answer:
“Indi , indi man maapektuhan ang second language ka mga kabataan, it’s because
ginatun-an man nanda ang second language.”
Translation: No, it will not affect the child's second language because they have
learned from their second language.

Interviewers’ Conclusion:

Taking everything into account, Shanne Jane Allas, a grade 8 student at Binaba-an National
High School, found it easier to enlighten their lesson by using the native language as the
medium of instruction. Furthermore, she agreed to use her mother tongue as the medium of
instruction from kindergarten to grade three. However, there are some words that are difficult
to understand but can be easily learned in the mother tongue.

1. What can you say about the implementation of Mother Tongue as the medium of
instruction from kindergarten to Grade 3?
Answer:
The implementation of mother tongue as the medium of instruction in early years of
schooling in the Philippines has a strong theoretical basis and positive impact on
education. The use of local language promotes better understanding, cultural
preservation, and cognitive development. The Language Acquisition, Sociolinguistic,
Cognitive Development, and Constructivist theories all support this approach. However,
it is essential that teachers are trained and equipped to teach in the local language, and
that the curriculum and materials are consistent and effective. The use of mother
tongue as the medium of instruction is a step towards improving the quality of
education in the Philippines.

2. Was it successful? Why or why not?


Answer:
The implementation of mother tongue as the medium of instruction in the early years of
schooling in the Philippines has been partially successful. Studies have shown that
students taught in their mother tongue perform better in reading and mathematics and
promote the preservation and use of local languages. However, there are challenges
such as the lack of trained teachers and teaching materials in the local language. To
fully realize the potential of this approach, investments must be made in teacher
training, curriculum development, and teaching materials to effectively implement this
approach in the classroom.

3. What are its strengths and weaknesses?


Answer:
Using the Mother Tongue in the curriculum has several strengths, such as promoting
better understanding among students, preserving local cultures and languages, and
facilitating cognitive development. However, its effective implementation requires
addressing weaknesses, including a shortage of trained teachers and teaching materials
in the local language, limited exposure to other languages, and potential limitations on
future career prospects. Standardization is also necessary to ensure consistency and
effectiveness in the teaching materials and curriculum.Overall, using the Mother Tongue
in the curriculum has both advantages and disadvantages, and successful
implementation requires addressing these challenges.

4. Do you agree that a child must be taught using his or her first language before
introducing other languages such as English and Filipino?

5. Do you think MTB-MLE will affect a child’s proficiency in his or her second language?
Answer:
There is evidence to suggest that using the Mother Tongue in early education can
actually improve a child's proficiency in second language acquisition. Studies have
shown that when students are taught in their Mother Tongue, they have a better
understanding of the concepts and can transfer this knowledge to other languages.
Additionally, teaching English as a second language alongside the Mother Tongue has

1. What can you say about the implementation of Mother Tongue as the medium of
instruction from kindergarten to Grade 3?
Answer: Well, first of all um... having mother tongue as a subject in kinder up to grade
three is very helpful because a student can understand the lesson much better because
we speak our own language. And...it can also... improve our learning because its much
better to understand.

2. Was it successful? Why or why not?


Answer: Well....for me it is successful since in my experience I learned so much and
faster because the lessons was explained in our own language which we can understand
and learned faster.

3. What are its strengths and weaknesses?


Answer: Ahhh....the strengths is, we can understand much easier and much better. The
weakness is, sometimes it is hard to speak specially in counting numbers.

Answer: Well.... I do agree. Because in a stage of a child, our IQ and brain is still small
and uh...we cannot understand much and we cannot catch up Filipino and English like
that language. And it is much easier for us to learn if we...if the lessons is explained in
our own language.

5. Do you think MTB-MLE will affect a child’s proficiency in his or her second language?
Answer: I think it can affect. Because we cannot understand the lesson fully in English.
And I think it should be balance both. Mother tongue is very important to understand
fully the meaning so you can speak the second language.

It has pros and cons, but overall, using mother tongue as the medium of instruction for
students in kindergarten through grade 3 is a successful method of teaching kids. Because
lessons are taught to children in their own language, they can comprehend them more quickly
and easily. A child's ability to learn a second language, such as English or Filipino, is not
hampered by the teaching of the mother tongue. A child can achieve full comprehension and
develop fluency in multiple languages with the right combination of both. As a result, improving
children's language, learning, and comprehension skills through the MTB-MLE approach is

Responses to the given questions:

1. What can you say about the implementation of Mother Tongue as the medium of
instruction from kindergarten to Grade 3?
Answer: For me, I can say that...the implementation of mother tongue to kindergarten
up to grade 3 is the pupil can easily understand if mother tongue is used. Because as we
all know little children donot have that widen understanding or ideas about the lesson
given in kinder up to grade 3.Thats all.

2. Was it successful? Why or why not?


Answer: Yes, because we all know that mother tongue is very important to us not just in
the pupils but to parents also. Because through parents they first learned to speak
mother tongue and that is also the bridge in communication to each one.

3. What are its strengths and weaknesses?


Answer: The good in mother tongue is that we learned more native words not just in
young people that we can say that yes...we all know but it must be mark that we need
to live it in using the mother tongue. And the weakness for me...is that today mother
tongue is not that very important in speaking because today’s generation we gladly
embrace the English language than our own language.

4. Do you agree that a child must be taught using his or her first language before
introducing other languages such as English and Filipino?
Answer: Oh yeah... I agree because as I have told you earlier that we learned to speak
mother tongue first in our parents. Because now a days....Filipino is much easy to
understand by the young people as we are in generation Z and the second language is
English...today’s generation young people could easily learned speaking the second
language and they have hard time in understanding the mother tongue but... I do agree
that mother tongue should be taught first before any language.

5. Do you think MTB-MLE will affect a child’s proficiency in his or her second language?
Answer: For me...I think no. Because we easily use it because...because... we know that
our language we choose it to accept so...thats why it cannot affect our proficiency
because we know in ourselves that we are capable to develop well the second language

and we can use it in any ways.

Young students' comprehension has improved thanks to the use of mother tongue as the
medium of instruction from kindergarten through grade 3. This strategy's strength is the
expansion of native language vocabulary, and its weakness is the current decline in mother
tongue importance. Prior to introducing other languages, it is crucial to teach children in their
first language. This won't have an impact on how well they learn their second language.
Overall, it is critical to acknowledge the importance of mother tongue in early education
because it is a crucial tool for communication and language development.
