Instructions
Structural Designer is one of the Structural roles in the 3DEXPERIENCE Works portfolio using ABAQUS technology
Discuss with your instructor, before or after the HOTD, the capabilities of various roles

• All commands are accessible from the Action Bar.
• Frequently used commands are accessible from the Assistant panel (primarily shown here).
• Save your setup time-to-time.
• Use the Feature Manager and Visibility Manager.

• Starting from SOLIDWORKS, save the model to the platform
• Setup and run a Linear Static analysis using Structural Designer role
- Apply material
- Local mesh refinement & mesh
- Bonded & general contact definition

- Boundary conditions and loads
- Run & post-process
• Setup and run a Frequency analysis using Structural Designer
- Similar to before, but all touching faces bonded and no external load
• Make a geometry design change in SOLDIWORKS and Global Refresh
• Re-run the Linear Static and Frequency analyses – less material with similar behavior

Click on the Compass, search for and launch the 3DSpace app, create your personal “Collaborative Space” for this HOTD

Click on the Compass, search for SOLIDWORKS - Depending on what role you have, launch one of these:
- “Design with SOLIDWORKS” app in “Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS (UES) role OR
- “SOLIDWORKS Connected” app from 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS role

Make sure MySession is in the right Collaborative Space you just created

Open the top assembly (_Suspension_assembly_V1final) in SOLIDWORKS

In the 3DEXPERIENCE tab, make sure “Convert Status” is visible

Select all components and Save to the platform – Lock all components

Click on the top assembly - From the Compass, select “Structural Designer” role and launch “Linear Structural Validation” app

Choose “Structural” for analysis type and give it a name
You can activate the Tree Display, but not vital

(Assistant>Setup) OR (Action bar>Mesh) - Mesh Specifications: Generate mesh

(Assistant>Setup) OR (Action bar>Mesh) – Local Mesh Specifications: select the 2 fillets, apply 1mm for element size,
Generate mesh

(Assistant>Materials) OR (Action bar>Setup) – Material Palette: Search for Alloy Steel, Apply to all 4 parts.
If Alloy Steel is not available or you do not want to create the properties manually: create a new tab and import the 3dxml file
with the provided material data. Once this file opens, right click on it in the feature tree and select Apply. The material will be
selected. Now switch back to the earlier tab and apply it to the physical product to assign the material to all the parts.

(Assistant>Contact) OR (Action bar>Connections) – Bonded Contact Detection – Find Surface Pairs, remove 1,2,3 and keep
4,5 – Apply

(Assistant>Boundary Conditions) OR (Action bar>Boundary Conditions) – Fixed Displacement, select Tirod end face, choose
Translation X,Y, choose Align Triad handle with a line, plane normal, choose the end face again – this re-orients the axis

(Assistant> Loads) OR (Action bar>Loads) – Force, select Tirod end face, 3000 lbf
Unit is converted automatically if applicable

(Assistant>Simulate) OR (Action bar>Results) – Update and Simulate

In a new tab, search for the Physical product (prd: suspension). Use the 6W tags to filter results if needed. Select the
appropriate physical product, click on the compass and launch the linear structural validation app

Go to SOLIDWORKS interface and Unlock the model

Unsuppress the ExtrudedCut in the SteeringBracket part

Save to the platform
Go to the tab with the previously run Static analysis – in the Assistant, click on Setup
(Action bar>Standard) Global Refresh – if you don’t see it, click on the arrow next to Update
