29(spoken letters) in number.
These Arabic alphabets were
put in order by AL IMAM

MAKHRAJ

‫ خرج‬- to exit
‫ خمرج‬- place of exit
Plural of the word Makhraj is Makhaarij.

Makhraj means the exit point of the sound


of the letter or origin point(place of the
letter), in simple words – point of
articulation of the letter.
‫ العامة المخرج‬- These are the five major areas
which coincides with the organs of speech.

‫ الخاصة المخرج‬- these are the specific or actual point


of articulation of each letter and they are 17 in total.

mouth) which lies opposite to it.

the inner part of the
lower lip with the edges
of upper central incisors.

These letters are pronounced by using both the lips..

The Nasal cavity
The gunnah is articulated from the nasal cavity, gunnah is
also called nasalisation which is one of the important
characteristics of letter noon and letter meem.
