During a music composition project, the student learned how to write music notation and use music software. They struggled at first to learn the notes and their relation to math, but eventually understood it. The student performed in a group and enjoyed playing Neddy's piece, and also created their own called "The Sound of Samba" which used unusual rhythms to fit different instruments. The composition process requires having various rhythms prepared and a plan for how to write the music to match lyrics.

write music, I also learnt how to use music software on the computers. I firstly had to learn the notes and how to write them, it was quite difficult at first but I then caught the hang of it after we learnt their relation to maths, it was also strange with the sections of where and how you write the notes but then it became understandable. I did a group performance of Neddy’s piece Nandos love and greatly enjoyed it, and also made my own piece called the sound of samba, I had to come up with all sorts of weird and wonderful rhythms to fit the instruments we were using (surdo, agogo bell, shaker and scraper). I learnt that when composing a piece of music you needed to already have a variety of rhythms and also have a rough idea of how you are going to do it. When writing a song you need to have the music to correlate with the lyrics (work together).
