How robots assist in service delivery in Health care

Robots have significantly advanced in the past recent years. The first medical
robots appeared in the 1980s and since then they have continued to assist in healthcare
service delivery by performing various tasks. They can help with repetitive and time-
consuming activities, enhancing efficiency and reducing human error. They help with
the rising cost of coverage as well as the challenges experienced with labour
shortages. Here are some of the significant contributions of robotics in healthcare and
its potential for revolutionizing the future of medicine.
One of the most prominent applications of robotics in healthcare is robotic-
assisted surgery. Surgical robots like the da Vinci Surgical System allow surgeons to
perform minimally invasive procedures with enhanced precision and control. These
robots translate a surgeon's hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of
tiny instruments, reducing trauma to the patient's body and promoting quicker
recovery times. During the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals and clinics all over the
world began using robots for a variety of tasks to help reduce the pathogen exposure
Robots equipped with cameras and screens enable remote consultations
between doctors and patients. These robots can move around a healthcare facility,
allowing doctors to interact with patients, examine them, and even discuss treatment
options from a distance. This is called Telemedicine and remote care and it allows
physicians to virtually interact with and monitor their patients with personalized
attention and without physically being there.
Elderly care, assisted living and companionship are other things that
robots help with nowadays. Robots designed to interact with the elderly can provide
companionship, remind them to take medications and assist with daily tasks like
getting out of bed or moving around. Robots also assist elderly individuals reducing
the burden on caregivers
Robotic devices like exoskeletons aid in physical therapy and rehabilitation by
guiding patients through exercises and tracking their progress. These devices can
provide consistent and targeted movements, helping patients regain strength and
mobility. They help with various conditions like stroke, spinal cord injuries, and
neurological disorders.
Robots help in emergency response for example in disaster scenarios to assess
hazardous situations, locate and rescue victims, and deliver medical supplies to areas
that may be unsafe for human responders.
With the ever-rising technology in today’s world, there is no denying the role
of robots in service delivery in healthcare. From patient monitoring to medication
dispensing and even data collection and analysis, we can see how robots assist in
many ways. The integration of robotics is transforming the way we approach medical
treatment and patient care.
