Renaissance Art

Renaissance art is marked by a gradual shift from the abstract

forms of the medieval period to the representational forms of
the 15th century. Subjects grew from mostly biblical scenes to
include portraits, episodes from Classical religion, and events
from contemporary life.

The creation of Adam

Painted in c. 1508–1512
Painted by Italian artist Michelangelo
It illustrates the Biblical creation narrative from the
Book of Genesis in which God gives life to Adam, the first
man. The fresco is part of a complex iconographic
scheme and is chronologically the fourth in the series of
panels depicting episodes from Genesis.
Realism Art
realism, in the arts, the accurate, detailed, unembellished
depiction of nature or of contemporary life. Realism rejects
imaginative idealization in favour of a close observation of
outward appearances. As such, realism in its broad sense has
comprised many artistic currents in different civilizations.

Girl with a Pearl Earring

Painted in c. 1665
Painted by Johannes Vermeer
Girl with a Pearl Earring represents a young woman in a dark
shallow space, an intimate setting that draws the viewer's
attention exclusively on her. She wears a blue and gold
turban, the titular pearl earring, and a gold jacket with a
visible white collar beneath.
