Title: Diffusion
Aim:
Apparatus/Materials: Potassium permanganate crystal, Filter paper, Petri dish and Forceps
Method:
1. The centre of the filter paper was found and labelled as X
2. Four 1cm intervals from the centre of the filter paper were marked
3. Each interval was labelled
4. The petri dish was placed on the filter paper so that its centre was directly on the X
mark
5. The forceps were used to put potassium permanganate crystal over the X mark
6. The time for the potassium permanganate to reach each interval was recorded
7. The results were tabulated

Observation:
Table showing rate at which potassium permanganate crystal reaches intervals
Intervals Time
Interval 1
Interval 2 `
Interval 3
Interval 4

Interpretation and Analysis:

1. Why was the rate of diffusion faster at the first interval when compared to the other
intervals

2. Diffusion is a slow process, suggest and explain two ways in which the rate could be
speeded up

3. Give an example of diffusion taking place in plants and animals
