TITLE: Parents attitude towards schooling their children midst the

Pandemic: Basis for the Formulation of Policy and

Guidelines in the Division of Quezon

Rationale

Faced with the issue of the health crisis, parents are beginning to look

for new methods to give their children with an education while remaining safe

at home. One of them is homeschooling. Homeschooling, as opposed to home-

based learning, in which instructors and schools are still in charge of the

child's education, is a type of learning in which parents lead the learning and

education, according to Mendoza (2020). Despite the autonomy and flexibility

that homeschooling provides, parents must ask themselves critical questions

before committing to this method of education.

Online learning is learning that takes place over the internet and is

facilitated by a digital platform that allows for learning to take place without

the need for physical connection between educators and students (Putra,

2020). Distance Learning using two techniques, namely online learning and

offline learning, is used to execute learning from home methods and media

(Kebudayaan, 2020). The government's online learning initiative is aimed at

students at all levels of education, from kindergarten to university. The

implication is that the family takes over the educational role that was formerly

performed by the educational institution, and the house becomes the focus of

educational activity. This phenomenon has a good and bad impact: on the one

hand, it restores the house's function as a center for educational activities; on

the other hand, it forces parents to take on new extra duties as replacement

teachers or partners with teachers during distant learning.

Because not all parents have appropriate pedagogic competence, this is a

significant and serious problem for parents (Haerudin et al. 2020). In remote

learning, for example, parents are expected to be active and innovative so that

their children may study successfully and have fun while doing so. The play

technique may be used to create effective and pleasurable learning. As a result,

at the level of early childhood education, playing is a method of learning.

Children are allowed to explore through activities that are done for fun and

pleasure, making learning more relevant for them since they may gain

understanding based on their experiences while playing (Nasional, 2007). In

reality, parents who accompany their children to distance learning classes are

frequently unable to apply fun learning through play activities, putting a strain

on the children's psychological well-being. They are bored and even fearful of

learning in front of their parents. One of the elements contributing to this,

according to the author, is the overlapping of parental responsibilities during

the implementation of distant learning. When this work overlaps, parents

become stressed, and they are unable to create an effective and enjoyable

learning environment when accompanying their children during distant

learning.

Lack of understanding of the material being taught, difficulty in growing

children's interest in learning, difficulty operating gadgets, not having enough

time to accompany children, not being patient enough, and having a problem
with a quality network or internet connection are all factors that parents face

when implementing distance learning (Anita Wardani, 2021). Many parents

must first study the material for their children's school assignments before

accompanying them during remote learning. Distance learning requires

parents to perform additional activities, such as studying information for

school assignments provided to their children, particularly content linked to

cognitive elements; recalling and understanding material for their children's

school assignments. If parents do not know or comprehend the material for

their child's school assignments, distance learning help will not be successful.

As a result, in order for distance learning support at home to be

successful, parents must master the learning materials provided by the teacher

to their children (Mega Ria Agustina, 2021). To put it another way, parents'

knowledge and comprehension of their children's school assignment content is

critical to increasing the quality of distance learning with their children

(Irhamna, 2016). Another issue that parents encounter in helping distance

learning at home is their children's lack of enthusiasm to study. Children

frequently refuse to study during remote learning for a variety of reasons.

Some parents' complaints about their children's lack of learning

motivation are consistent with the psychological features of early infancy,

which include short attention spans except for things that are intrinsically

enjoyable, such as playing. The proof is that it is still difficult in early infancy

to sit and pay attention to anything for an extended amount of time, such as

while participating in remote learning (Masitoh, dkk., 2011). As a result,

parents must use a variety of teaching techniques and media that are

appropriate for their children's learning styles in order for them to be motivated

to study while participating in remote learning (Suyadi, 2010). The

consequence is that during distant learning mentorship, parents have an extra

task: actively motivating children's learning in various ways so that youths

focus on learning. Having said that, this research aims to Parents attitude

towards schooling their children amidst the Pandemic.

Here the researcher utilizes the IPO (Input-Process-Output) to show the
intended flow of this research.
In the INPUT Box, the researcher is need of the profile of respondents in

terms of Age, Gender. and Highest Educational Attainment. Furthermore, it is

also significant for this research to get gather Respondents’ perception of

Distance Learning Modality in terms of Collaborative Learning, Cooperative

Learning, Reciprocal learning, and Instructional Learning.

Furthermore, in the PROCESS Box, the researcher will be guided by the

Data Gathering procedure stated in the methodologies. The Data and

Information will be gathered by means of using an Online Survey Form and is

subject for Data Analysis.

And lastly, The OUTPUT Box represent the intended output of this

research which is to determine Parents attitude towards schooling their

children amidst the Pandemic.

Methodology:

Locale of the Study

This research will be conducted to the Private School in the Schools

Division of Quezon Province. The Division of Quezon is considered as one of the

four very large schools divisions in the Philippines. DepEd Quezon

encompassing of 953 schools; 771 Elementary and 182 Secondary Schools.

166 out of 182 are offering Senior High School Program. These schools are

distributed in four congressional districts of Quezon. Quezon Province is

composed of 1,543 barangays.

Research Design

The study will utilized qualitative research design in analyzing the data

and information provided to the researchers.

Population

The study will focus on the students’ parent of School Division of

Quezon Province. The total number of respondents are as follow;

No. of Frequency Percentage
Participants

Furthermore, the researcher will utilize Random Sampling Design in

choosing the number of respondents per school so that a greater number of the

population has an equal opportunity to participate in the study.

Research Instrumentation

The researcher will utilize online survey questionnaire to gather data and

information from the respondents, the questionnaire will be made by the

researcher so that only necessary data and information will be collected from

the respondents. Also, the research instrument will undergo pilot testing to

determine the reliability of the survey tool and will be conducted to a group of

thirty (30) teachers. The questionnaire shall have a Cronbach Alpha result of .5

to be labelled as excellent. Laerd Statistics (2018) stated that Cronbach’s alpha

is the most common measure of internal consistency It is most commonly used

when you have multiple Likert questions in a survey/questionnaire that form a

scale and you wish to determine if the scale is reliable.

Statistical Treatment

In analyzing the data from the respondents, Percentage and Frequency

Formula, Mean and Standard Deviation, and One-way ANOVA will be utilized.
