CHAPTER IV PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This chapter is the presentation, analysis and interpretation of the gathered data. The main purpose of this study is to determine the level of awareness on Human Papilloma Virus Vaccination among female students of Emilio Aguinaldo CollegeCavite. 1. What is the profile of the female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite according to: 1.1 Age ? Table 1 . Table 1 shows that most, specifically 92 or 44.7% of the respondents are aged 17-18 years old and is ranked 1st; sixty (60) or 29.1% are aged 15-16 and is ranked 2nd; forty (40) or 19.4% are aged 19-20 and is ranked 3rd; eight (8) are aged 23-24 and is

ranked 4th; and six (6) or 2.9% of the respondents are aged 21-22 years old and is ranked last. This means that majority of the female students of Emilio Aguinaldo CollegeCavite belong to the young adult age, which has the capacity to bear a child, and susceptible to viruses brought about by sexual intercourse like Human Papilloma Virus. Table 2 shows majority, specifically 197 or 95.6% of the respondents are single while only 9 or 4.4% are married. It attributes that majority of the female students of Emilio Aguinaldo CollegeCavite are single. These young adults are struggling to be independent and they need the support of their parents not only financial, but also psychological and emotional as

Table 3 shows that most, specifically 97 or 47.1% of the respondents are enrolled in Business/customs Administration and Accountancy and is ranked 1st; forty seven (47) or 22.8% in Education/Arts and Sciences and is ranked 2 nd; twenty five (25) or 12.1% in Hotel and Restaurant Management and is ranked 3 rd; twenty one (21) or 10.2% in Computer Science and is ranked 4th; ten (10) or 4.9% in Criminology and is ranked 5th; and six (6) or 4.9% of the respondents are enrolled in Engineering and Technology and is ranked last. The findings tells that in Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite, B.S.in Business Administration, B.S. in Customs Administration, B.S. in Accountancy, B.S. in Education, B.S. in Psychology, A.B. Table 4 shows that majority, specifically one hundred ninety nine (199) or 96.6% of the respondents have no family history of cervical cancer while only seven (70 or 3.4% has. It attributes that majority of the female students of Emilio Aguinaldo CollegeCavite have no family history of cervical cancer. Having no family member afflicted with HPV does not erase or lessen the chances of one not contracting the virus. WHO requires girls as early as nine (9) years old to undergo HPV vaccination, and if young adults did not have the vaccination, they should get vaccinated before they start engaging in sexual activity in order to protect them from contracting HPV. Table 5 shows that most, specifically one hundred nine (109) or 52.9% of the respondents received information about HPV vaccination from television and is ranked 1st; forty four (44) or 21.4% from the Internet and is ranked 2 nd; thirty eight (38) or 18.4% from fellow EAC student/s and is ranked 3rd; and fifteen (15) or 7.3% of the respondents received information about HPV vaccination from newspapers and magazines and is ranked last. The findings show that among female students of Emilio Aguinaldo CollegeCavite, television is their number one source of information; and coming second is the Internet which is becoming popular among students. Table 5 shows the level of awareness on Human Papilloma Virus vaccination among female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite. As a whole, the female students are slightly aware of the constraint about HPV and HPV vaccination; the average weighted mean being 1.922 only. Q5 - Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine is given as 3 injections over 6 months - is ranked 1st , has a mean of 2.22 and interpreted as Slightly Aware. Q2- Women should get vaccinated before they become sexually active - is ranked 2nd, has a mean of 2.01 and interpreted as Slightly Aware. Q7 and 8 - Human Papilloma Virus vaccine helps protect women against four (4) types of Human Papilloma Virus and Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine protects against vaginal and vulvar cancer are both ranked 3.5th,, have means of 1.99 and interpreted as Slight Aware. Q6 - Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine may reduce the risk of contacting genital warts that may develop into a cancer caused by Human Papilloma Virus - is ranked 5th,,has a mean of 1.97 and interpreted as Slightly Aware. Q9 - Human Papilloma Virus vaccination combined with Papsmear will reduce the risk of acquiring Human Papilloma Virus - is ranked 6th ,has a mean of 3.26 and interpreted as Slightly Aware. Q1 and 3 Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination is recommended to females aged 9-25 years old and Human Papilloma Virus vaccine is most effective in women who dont have sexual experience are both ranked 7.5th, have means of 1.86 and interpreted as Slightly Aware. Q10 - Side effects of Human Papilloma Virus vaccine are high fever, weakness, dizziness and rashes -is ranked 9th, has a mean of 1.74 and interpreted as Slightly Aware. Q4- Human Papilloma Virus Vaccination costs Php 2,500-3,000 per shot/dose - is ranked last, has a mean of 1.69 and interpreted as Slightly Aware.

Table 7 shows that at 5% level of significance, with 39 degrees of freedom, the fcomputed value of 7.98 is greater than the f-critical value of 2.87. The decision is to reject the null hypothesis and accept the alternative hypothesis, hence, there is a

significant difference between the level of awareness on Human Papilloma Virus vaccination among female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite and their Age. It means that the respondents level of awareness on HPV vaccination varies when they are grouped according to age.

Table 8 shows that at 5% level of significance, with 19 degrees of freedom, the fcomputed value of 0.55 is less than the f-critical value of 4.47. The decision is to accept the null hypothesis, hence, there is no significant difference between the level of awareness on Human Papilloma Virus vaccination among female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite and their Civil Status. It means that civil status does not affect the respondents level of awareness on HPV vaccination. The decision is to accept the null hypothesis, hence, there is no significant difference between the level of awareness on Human Papilloma Virus vaccination among female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite and their family history of cervical cancer. It means that family history of cervical cancer does not affect the respondents level of awareness on HPV vaccination. SUMMARY The study was pursued for the intention of determining the level of awareness on Human Papilloma Virus vaccination among female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite. Specifically, this study answered the following problems: 1. What is the profile of the female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite according to : 1.1 Age; 1.2 Civil Status; 1.3 Course; 1.4 Family History of Cervical Cancer; and

1.5 Source of Information about HPV vaccination?

2. What is the level of awareness on Human Papilloma Virus vaccination among female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite? 3. Is there a significant difference between the level of awareness on Human Papilloma Virus vaccination among female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite and their profile?

RESEARCH HYPOTHESES There is no significant difference between the level of awareness on Human Papilloma Virus vaccination among female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite and their profile.

METHODOLOGY The descriptive method of research was utilized in this study. Questionnaires were given to the respondents and served as the research tool in collecting data. The survey was conducted during the months of July to August 2011. For statistical treatment of data, Percentage/ Frequency Distribution, Weighted Mean and ANOVA (One Way) were used. FINDINGS 1. Profile of the Respondents

computed value of 3.81 is greater than the f-critical value of 2.39. The decision is

to reject the null hypothesis and accept the alternative hypothesis, hence, there is a significant difference between the level of awareness on Human Papilloma Virus vaccination among female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite and their Course. It means that the respondents level of awareness on HPV vaccination varies when they are grouped according to course. 3.4 Family History of Cervical Cancer - At 5% level of significance, with 19

degrees of freedom, the f-computed value of 0.00 is less than the f-critical value of 4.41. The decision is to accept the null hypothesis, hence, there is no significant difference between the level of awareness on Human Papilloma Virus vaccination among female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite and their family history of cervical cancer . It means that family history of cervical cancer does not affect the respondents level of awareness on HPV vaccination. 3.5 Source of Information about HPV Vaccination - At 5% level of

It means that the respondents level of awareness on HPV vaccination varies when they are grouped according to source of information about HPV vaccination.

CONCLUSIONS Based on the results of the study, the following conclusions were made: 1. Majority of the female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite were single and had no family history of cervical cancer ; while most were aged 17-18 years old, enrolled in the School of Business

Administration/Customs Administration & Accountancy, and received information about HPV vaccination from television. 2. The female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite were slightly aware about Human Papilloma Virus vaccination. 3. There was no significant difference between the level of awareness on Human Papilloma Virus vaccination among female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College Cavite cervical cancer. 4. There was a significant relationship between the level of awareness on Human Papilloma Virus vaccination among female students of Emilio Aguinaldo College Cavite and their age, course and source of and their civil status, and family history of

information about HPV vaccination.
