Research I Here are a few guidelines on how to write a data log book.

Quarter 2 – Module 4: Data Log Book & ISEF Forms  Use a hard-bound notebook or composition book and never tear a page

 To be familiar with the ways on how to demonstrate proper data log  All entries should be properly dated. Use a blue or black ink pen only

 Do not erase, whiteout, or re-do. If a mistake is made, cross out with one
line and write the correct entry.
Choose from the word bank to identify the word/s described in each item.
 Write everything down (problems encountered, reflections, suggestions
etc.) even if it seems insignificant at the time; the information may be
useful later on.
 Make sure that you describe things in enough detail so that any-one else
reading your logbook in the future will be able to understand your
thoughts and repeat the entire experiment exactly like you did it in the
first place.
 You should take pictures throughout the experimentation phase of your

DATA LOG BOOK

 (also called as project or research notebook) is an important part of any

research project.
 It is a detailed account of every phase of your project, from the initial
brainstorming to the final research report.
 The data log book is proof that certain activities occurred at specific
times and will serve as your primary source of documentation of what
you actually did in the lab as well as your thought process during the
analysis of the data and planning the experiment.

Here are some general guidelines in accomplishing the ISEF Forms.

 Every project requires an Abstract, Forms 1, 1A, 1B, and a Research
Plan
 The forms should be filled out and signed before any research takes
place.
 Only Forms 1C, 5B, 7, and the abstract are done after the research.
 The dates of the signatures reflect when the approval or consent is given.
Use MM/DD/YY format for all dates.
 Read and understand carefully the handbook of the ISEF Forms.
 Familiarize yourself with the different terminologies associated in
accomplishing the forms.
 It is always free and can be easily downloaded. Make sure to update and
look out for the latest version to see if there are changes in the forms.
 Follow the guidelines and instructions provided by your Adult Sponsor.
 Determine which forms may be required prior to starting your project.
