PERFORMANCE TASK 1
My Most Embarrassing Moment (Narration)
The most embarrassing moment of my sophomore year was how I earned my
nick name, Crash. It all started right after school when I turned on to the busiest
street by the school. First, I pulled up right behind this truck at a stop sign. After a
second, a fellow older student told me that I was really close and that I was going
to hit the truck in front of me. At the moment I was trying to tell the kid that I was
giving a ride to get back in the car because he was hanging out the window.
Since I was distracted, I thought the long line of traffic had started to move, but it
hadn’t. In the blink of an eye, I hit the back of the truck in front of me. The
devastation sunk in. I was so worried that I damaged the truck, but all that I did
was scratch his bumper. Lucky for him! Then it came time to look at my car. My
car was ruined. The hood was buckled, the front end was pushed back, and my
headlights were broken. Humiliated and scared, I still had to drive my totaled care
home. During School that year, I never did hear the end of what had happened
that day.
Gregory (Description)
Gregory is my beautiful gray Persian cat. He walks with pride and grace,
performing a dance of disdain as he slowly lifts and lowers each paw with the
delicacy of a ballet dancer. His pride, however, does not extend to his
appearance, for he spends most of his time indoors watching television and
growing fat. He enjoys TV commercials, especially those for Meow Mix and 9
Lives. His familiarity with cat food commercials has led him to reject generic
brands of cat food in favor of only the most expensive brands. Gregory is as
finicky about visitors as he is about what he eats, befriending some and repelling
others. He may snuggle up against your ankle, begging to be petted, or he may
imitate a skunk and stain your favorite trousers. Gregory does not do this to
establish his territory, as many cat experts think, but to humiliate me because he
is jealous of my friends. After my guests have fled, I look at the old fleabag
snoozing and smiling to himself in front of the television set, and I have to
forgive him for his obnoxious, but endearing, habits."
Love (Definition)
It brings about peace, harmony and joy between individuals. Love is a
positive and healthy attitude. When love governs an interaction or a
relationship there is no place for negative qualities such as jealousy, greed,
violence and anger. Parents, flourish love on their children. Parents are
willing to undertake any kind of discomfort and pain for the sake of their
children’s well-being, happiness and comfort. Children too love their
parents. They show their love through respect and gratitude for their
parents. Love is expressed in many different ways. Love can be shown even
through small acts. A thoughtful deed can be the expression of one’s love
for another. For example, giving your mother a glass of water when she
needs it is an expression of your love for her. In marriage too it is love that
brings two individuals together in harmony and joy, and makes for a happy
marriage.
Different Types of Schools (Classification)
Different students attend various types of schools; they can usually be
classified as either public, private religious, private nonreligious, or
alternative. Public schools are funded by the state, and the majority of
students in the United States attend them. Private schools are schools that
do not receive federal funding but are instead supported by a private
organization or funding from individuals. Private religious schools are
based around a particular faith, such as Catholicism, Protestantism, Judaism,
and so forth. Religion is part of the everyday lives of the students and they
also learn about their faith in addition to regular subjects. On the other
hand, private nonreligious schools do not receive state funding and have
the ability to make their own rules. Alternative schools can be made up of a
variety of different categories, such as the Montessori program or technical
schools, which are typically self-paced and hands-on. Most students who
attend class in a school building go to one of these types of institutions.
Christian and Islam (Comparison and Contrast)
Two of the largest religions in the world are Christianity and Islam. People
often think these religions are very different, but there are actually some
similarities between them. The first similarity is that followers of both
religions worship only one God, and this god is the source of rules that
must be followed. These include prohibitions on killing and stealing, and
the requirement to worship on a particular day of the week. A second
similarity is that both religions have a holy book. For Christians, this is the
Bible; for Muslims, the sacred text is the Qur’an. Both books provide
guidance for followers of the religion with regard to suitable behavior. A
third similarity is that both religions have a long history of pilgrimage. All
Muslims are required to travel to the city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia at least
once in their lives. Christians do not have this exact requirement, but many
of the great cathedrals in Europe have long been sites of pilgrimage. A final
similarity, and perhaps the most important, is that both religions promote
peace. While the conflict in the Middle East receives a lot of attention in the
news, Muslims are quick to point out that Islam, like Christianity, is
inherently a peaceful religion. Of course, there are differences between
Christianity and Islam, such as the role of women in society and Islam’s ban
on eating pork and drinking alcohol. However, it is worth remembering that
the two religions have more in common than people often think.
Why do Gigantic Reptiles Vanished? (Cause and Effect)
There are many theories about why the dinosaurs vanished from the planet.
One theory that many people believe is that a gigantic meteorite smashed
into the Earth. Scientists believe that the meteorite was very big and that
the impact may have produced a large dust cloud that covered the Earth
for many years. The dust cloud may have caused plants to not receive
sunlight and the large plant eaters, or herbivores, may have died off,
followed by the large meat eaters, or carnivores. This theory may or may
not be true, but it is one explanation as to why these giant reptiles no
longer inhabit the Earth.
Arsenic Pollution (Problem-Solution)
Problem: Arsenic contamination in drinking water can have serious
consequences, including skin lesions, cancer, and cardiovascular disease.
Many parts of the world, especially rural areas, have limited access to safe
drinking water, putting millions of people at risk of arsenic contamination.
Solution: One possible solution to this problem is to implement water
treatment systems that can remove arsenic from drinking water. This can
include various technologies such as Activated alumina, iron oxide-coated
sand, and reverse osmosis. These systems help reduce arsenic levels to safe
levels and can be implemented at the household and community level.
Education campaigns should be conducted to raise awareness of the
dangers of arsenic contamination and promote the use of treated water.

PERFORMANCE TASK 3
Social Media: Benefits and Drawbacks
The benefits of social media are clear - it has revolutionized the way we
communicate and consume information. Social media has made it easier to connect
with people from all over the world, share information, and access news and
entertainment. The rise of social media influencers has also allowed for new forms
of marketing and entrepreneurship.
The benefits of social media are undeniable, but the spread of misinformation has
become a major concern. In recent years, misinformation has led to significant
social and political consequences, ranging from the spread of conspiracy theories
to the erosion of trust in institutions. While social media platforms have taken steps
to address this issue, more needs to be done. Social media platforms should
implement more rigorous policies to combat the spread of misinformation. This
could include implementing fact-checking tools, flagging false information, and
removing repeat offenders from their platforms. Additionally, social media
platforms should prioritize the promotion of credible sources and the education of
their users on how to identify misinformation.
