GEOLOGY: LESSON 13
1. Environmental protection is of utmost importance for several reasons, including:
a) Preservation of Ecosystems: The environment consists of diverse ecosystems that
support various plant and animal species. Environmental protection ensures the
preservation of these ecosystems, maintaining the delicate balance of biodiversity and
enabling sustainable ecological processes.
b) Mitigation of Climate Change: Environmental protection involves efforts to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions, promote renewable energy sources, and adopt sustainable
practices. By addressing climate change, we can mitigate its adverse effects, such as
rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and sea-level rise, which can have profound
impacts on human societies and ecosystems.
c) Conservation of Natural Resources: The environment provides us with vital natural
resources, including clean water, clean air, fertile soil, and minerals. By protecting the
environment, we ensure the sustainable management and conservation of these resources,
allowing present and future generations to benefit from them.
d) Human Health and Well-being: A healthy environment is closely linked to human
health and well-being. Environmental protection measures, such as reducing pollution
and improving air and water quality, contribute to healthier living conditions, reducing
the risk of diseases and improving overall quality of life.
