CLASS:-12 TIME:- 90 MINUTES

 Attempt any 10 of the following questions:-
 Each question carry four equal marks:-
Q1. A square wire of side 3.0 cm is placed 25 cm away from a concave mirror of focal length 10
cm What is the area enclosed by the image of the wire? (The centre of the wire is on the axis of
the mirror, with its two sides normal to the axis). (4 MARKS)
Q2. The refractive index of glass is 1.5 and that of water is 1.3. If the speed of light in water is
2.25 x 108 ms-1 what is the speed of light in glass? (4 MARKS)
Q3. The radii of curvature of a double convex lens of glass (u=1.5) are in the ratio 1:2. This lens
renders the rays parallel coming from an illuminated filament at a distance of 6 cm. Calculate
the radii of curvature of its surfaces. (4 MARKS)
Q4. A double convex lens has a focal length of 25 cm in air. When it is dipped into a liquid of
refractive index 4/3, its focal length is increased to 100 cm. Find the refractive index of the
lens material. (4 MARKS)
Q5. A double convex lens has 10 cm and 15 cm as its two radii of curvatures. The image of an
object placed 30 cm from the lens, is formed at 20 cm from the lens on the other side. Find the
refractive index of the material of the lens. What will be the focal length? What will be the focal
length of the lens, if it is immersed in water of refractive index 1.33 cm ? (4 MARKS)

Q6. A convex lens of focal length 10 cm is placed coaxially 5 cm away from a concave lens of focal
length 10 cm. If an object is placed 30 cm in front of the convex lens, find the position of the
final image formed by the combined system. (4 MARKS)

Q7. An object is situated at 20 cm on the left of a convex lens of focal length 10 cm. Another
convex lens of focal length 12.5 cm is placed at a distance of 30 cm on the right of the first lens.
Find the position and magnifica- tion of the final image. State also the nature of the image. (4
MARKS)
Q8. A convex lens, of focal length 20 cm and a concave mirror, of focal length 10 cm, are placed
co-axially 50 cm apart from each other. An incident beam parallel to its principal axis, is
incident on the convex lens. Locate the position of the (final) image formed due to this
combination. (4 MARKS)
Q9. A ray of light passing through an equilateral triangular glass prism from air undergoes
minimum deviation when angle of incidence is 3/4th of the angle of prism. Calculate the speed
of light in the prism. (4 MARKS)
Q10. A ray of light suffers minimum deviation, while passing through a prism of refractive index
1.5 and refracting angle 60°. Calculate the angle of deviation and angle of incidence. (4 MARKS)
Q11. Two thin lenses of focal lengths + 10 cm and -5 cm are kept in contact. What is the (i) focal
length and (ii) power of the combination? (4 MARKS)
Q12. A 5 cm long needle is placed 10 cm from a convex mirror of focal length 40 cm. Find the
position, nature and size of the image of the needle. What happens to the size of image when
the needle is moved farther away from the mirror? (4 MARKS)
