II. PHÂN LOẠI
1. Đảo ngữ với các trạng từ phủ định: Never, rarely, seldom, little, hardly (ever)
Ví dụ: Rarely has he got bad marks.
Seldom does she listen to classical music.
Little does she understand the lesson.
Hardly can he pass the exam.
Never is he late for school.

2. Đảo ngữ với “NO VÀ NOT”


- For no reasons: không vì bất cứ lí do gì.
- No longer: không còn nữa
- At no time: chưa từng bao giờ
- In no way: không còn cách nào
- On no condition: tuyệt đối không
- On no account: không vì bất cứ lí do gì
- Under/In no circumstances: trong bất cứ hoàn cảnh nào cũng không.
- Not only...But also: Không chỉ...mà còn
- Not until/till: không chỉ đến khi

Ví dụ: Under no circumstances are the children allowed to give up their study.
No longer does he work as a teacher.
At no time did he know she came from a poor family
Not any money will we lend him from now on.
Not only is he good at dancing but he can also sings very well.
Not until the manager arrived could we solve the problem.

3. Đảo ngữ với: No sooner … than; Hardly/Barely/Scarcely… when/before…


- No sooner + had + S + P2 + than + clause (simple past)
- Hardly/Barely/Scarcely + had + S + P2+ when/before clause (simple past)
Ví dụ: No sooner had his mother gone out than he started playing games.
Hardly had I arrived home when he came.

4. Đảo ngữ với Only


- Only by + N/V- ing: chỉ bằng cách
- Only with + N/V-ing: chỉ với.
- Only in this/that way: chỉ bằng cách này/đó
- Only after + clause/ N/ - Ving: chỉ sau khi.
- Only once: chỉ một lần
- Only then: chỉ đến lúc đó
- Only when clause: chỉ đến khi
- Only if clause: chỉ nếu
Ví dụ: Only after signing the contract did I realize that I had made some mistakes.
Only when she sees the product will she decide to buy it.
Only by working harder can he pass the exam.
Only in this way will we be successful.

5. Đảo ngữ với “SO … THAT VÀ SUCH … THAT”


- SO … THAT:
Ví dụ: So hard does he study that he always gets good marks.
So interesting is the film that I have seen it twice.
So many books did he buy that he couldn't read them all.
* Lưu ý: Dùng SO + MANY/FEW/MUCH/LITTLE + NOUN, không dùng SUCH.

- SUCH … THAT:
Ví dụ: Such was a boring lecture that I felt sleepy.
Such was an expensive book that I couldn’t buy it.
* Lưu ý: Trong trường hợp BE + SO + MUCH/GREAT đổi thành SUCH + BE + NOUN
Ví dụ: The force of the storm was so great that trees were uprooted.
Such was the force of the storm that trees were uprooted.

6. Đảo ngữ với “NEITHER/NOR VÀ SO”


Ví dụ: They don’t live in Hanoi, and neither/nor do I.
He can speak English, and so can I.
Neither is there excitement nor entertainment in this village.
7. Đảo ngữ với các trạng từ chỉ phương hướng hoặc vị trí:
Khi câu có một từ hoặc một cụm trạng ngữ chỉ phương hướng hoặc vị trí thì nội động từ được đảo lên trước
chủ ngữ.
Ví dụ: - Peter started to open the box. A watch was inside the first.
-> Peter started to open the box. Inside the first was a watch.
- Her cat sat in an armchair.
-> In an armchair sat her cat.
* Lưu ý:
- Động từ TO BE thường được sử dụng trong dạng đảo ngữ này, ngoài ra ta còn dùng các nội động từ chỉ
sự chuyển động như: CLIMB, COME, FLY, GO, HANG, LIE, RUN, SIT, STAND.
- Dạng đảo ngữ này thường được dùng khi động từ ở thì quá khứ đơn.
- Trường hợp đảo ngữ này, không sử dụng trợ động từ mà sử dụng trực tiếp động từ đặt trước chủ từ.
- Không đảo ngữ khi chủ từ là đại từ.
Ví dụ: In an armchair sat she. (không đúng)

8. Đảo ngữ trong câu điều kiện


a) Câu điều kiện loại 1:
IF +S + V -> SHOULD + S + V …
Ví dụ: - If you hear the fire alarm, get out of the room immediately.
-> Should you hear the fire alarm, get out of the room immediately.
- If anybody rings me, please tell them to leave a message.
-> Should anybody ring me, please tell them to leave a message.
b) Câu điều kiện loại 2:
- Mệnh đề If có động từ Tobe:
IF + S + WERE -> WERE + S …
Ví dụ: - If I were you, I would marry her
-> Were I you, I would marry her.
- If I were the president, I would build more schools and hospitals.
-> Were I the president, I would build more schools and hospitals.

- Mệnh đề If có động từ thường


IF + S + Ved -> WERE + S + bare V …
Ví dụ: - If he worked more carefully, he wouldn’t make so many mistakes.
-> Were he to work more carefully, he wouldn’t make many mistakes.

c) Câu điều kiện loại 3


IF + S + HAD +P2 à HAD + S + P2…
Ví dụ: - If they had come earlier, they would have met her there.
-> Had they come earlier they would have met her there.

* Lưu ý: Đối với cả ba loại câu điều kiện, nếu mệnh đề IF là phủ định thì ta đặt NOT sau chủ từ.
Ví dụ: - If you don’t believe what I said, ask our teacher.
-> Should you not believe what I said, ask our teacher.
- If I hadn’t talked to him, I wouldn’t have believed it.
-> Had I not talked to him, I wouldn’t have believed it.
