BARANGAY FIRE OLYMPICS 2023

Greetings!
Republic Act No. 9418 ON ACT INSTITUTIONALIZING A STRATEGY FOR RURAL
DEVELOPMENT, STRENGTHENING VOLUNTEERISM provides, “It shall be the policy of the State to
promote the participation of the various sectors of the Filipino society, and as necessary, international and
foreign volunteer organizations in public and civic affairs, and adopt and strengthen the practice of volunteerism
as a strategy in order to attain national development and international understanding. The inculcation of
volunteerism as a way of life shall rekindle in every Filipino the time-honored tradition of bayanihan to foster
social justice, solidarity and sustainable development.”
Grounded by the Spirit of Solidarity, the men and women of themodern fire service are now mandated to
plan, organize and implement programs in partnerships with different departments, public or private
organizations to improve not just our expertise as responders but also to engage the community to be responsive
and vigilant at times of crisis and challenges.
Face by globalization and modernization, our agency’s thrust is to focus on community-based fire prevention
programs this year. As our FDIR LOUIE SURALTA PURACAN once said, “We really need to create more
community-based fire brigades and train more volunteers to complement with our fire prevention as well as
response programs,”
The BFP as the lead agency in fire prevention and suppression as well as disaster and emergency
medical responses facilitates educational programs and activities which centers on civic involvement. However,
empowering our people towards a safe and sound society requires not only our actual work but the collaborative
efforts of the LGU and its constituents. The community is our important stakeholder that we must build to work
towards the same interest and goal.
Today, as we commenced this event, I would like to give a great prominence of making this Barangay
Fire Olympics an avenue wherein disciplined is developed, strength and attentiveness are honed. Camaraderie
shall be ingrained and gradually interwoven into our daily undertakings so we are prepared to strike adversities
and emergencies not as an individual but as a team.
May this day inspire everyone to internalize “our vocation” to work as public trust and contribute to a
transformational nation wherein our people is more resilient, responsive, and cohesive.
