environment, protecting us from ultraviolet (UV) light coming from the sun, trauma,
pathogens, microorganisms, and toxins. The function of the skin is to protect people from
microorganisms, dehydration, UV, and external environment. So dehydration kasi as it acts as
a thermoregulator by conserving or releasing heat and this helps maintain yung water and
homeostatic balance ng katawan. It is also for sensation through temperature, pain, and deep
pressure. It also has a function in endocrine activity as it starts the biochemical processes that
are involved in Vitamin D production through activation by sun exposure and through this, it
can help with calcium absorption. The skin also is vital in exocrine activity by releasing
water, urea, and ammonia through production of sebum, sweat, and pheromones.

Layers of the Skin

The skin has three layers: epidermis (or the uppermost layer), dermis, and the
hypodermis (deeper subcutaneous layer). The epidermis provides a waterproof barrier and
contributes to skin tone, the dermis is found beneath the epidermis which contains the
connective tissue, hair follicles, blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, and sweat glands, the
hypodermis is made of fat and connective tissue. It is highly vascularized and blood supply
originates from a larger network of blood vessels and capillaries to the regional branches of
the systemic circulation to areas sa subcutaneous tissue and dermis.
