Public Area (JM)

The hotel’s public area is the place inside the hotel apart from the hotel’s guestrooms. These are
common places that facilitate access for in-house guests and non-resident guests. This is where the
heavy foot traffic is seen. Various activities are also held here in the public area.
The Public Areas Include:

-Food beverage outlet
-The hotel Garden
-Front office and Concierge area
-Pool Area
-Business Center
-Hallways
-Conference Center
-Parking lot
-Fitness Center
-Spa and Sauna

Common Terminologies in the Housekeeping Department (Euan)


When one’s working with the Housekeeping Team, it is imperative to acquaint oneself
towards various terminologies, jargons, and acronyms. Some of which are the following:

1. Contingency Plan – It is when planning is performed during unsure and


uncertain events.
2. Water Closet – These are sanitary fittings that is made up of a toilet bowl
and a cistern.
3. Room Status Report – A report that shows the present status of a room
provided by the housekeeping department.
4. Routine Maintenance – These are activities that’s in relation with the
maintenance or the general upkeep of a property.
5. R.D.M. – Also known as the Room Division Manager or the Director of
Rooms; it’s the person responsible for the location of guestrooms, including
the front office and housekeeping.
6. Damp-dusting – Method of cleaning by a damp cloth.
7. Bridge the Bed – The joint or combination of two beds.
8. Crinkle Sheet – Unique woven sheets for cover and protection.
9. Nappery – Basically table linens.
10.Roll Out – Removal of beds after use.
11.Jonny Mop – Also known as a toilet brush.
12.Pallet – A thin and light mattress.
13.Back-of-the-house – Considered as a functional area of a hotel that is
restricted.
14.Back-to-back – Explains a weighty check in and check out rate on the same
exact date.
15.Turn Down Service – A special service that allows room attendants to enter
guestrooms to make the bed and replenish certain items.
16.Hany-caddy – A portable container are used for storing and transport
cleaning supplies.
17.Hopper – A sturdy metal container for the disposal of garbage.
18.Sani-bin – A metal bin used for the disposed toilet rolls in the bathroom.
19.Candle-wick – A soft cotton thread that allows the candle to burn.
20.Pilferage – A crime of taking someone’s property without permission.
21.Accommodation Checklist – A list used by the housekeeping staff to keep
track of all the times to be checked in a room.
And apart from the prior mentioned terminologies, here are some of the common
jargon and acronyms in the housekeeping operations.
