ID-GELSMOOTH
ID-GELSMOOTH bentonite is a specially selected, untreated sodium bentonite for use in DRILSMOOTH system.
It ensures that DRILSMOOTH mixed metal oxide (MMO) absorbs onto the hydrated clay platelets to form a
strong, stable complex. It has particular application in drilling high-angle and horizontal wells, lost circulation
zones, production reservoirs as a reservoirs drill-fluid (RDF).

Application

The rheological properties of the DRILSMOOTH system depend on the formation of a strong and stable
complex between bentonite and DRILSMOOTH mixed metal oxide. Formation of a strong ID-GELSMOOTH
DRILSMOOTH complex reduces the sensitivity of the DRILSMOOTH system to anionic compounds, salts and
other contaminants.
The high viscosities achieved at lower shear rates (6 and 3 rpm) ensure good hole-cleaning capabilities and
suspension properties and reduce flow into fractures and highly porous formations.
ID-GELSMOOTH DRILSMOOTH complex is an excellent bridging agent that helps prevent solids invasion when
drilling into many reservoirs.
Typical concentration are 7 to 10 lb/bbl (20 to 28.5 kg/m3).

Packing and Storage

ID-GELSMOOTH bentonite is packaged in 45.36 kg (100-lb) multi-wall paper sacks.

Store in a dry location away from sources of heat or ignition and minimize dust.
