Inspect the Trailer Hitch Kit Parts for Defects Cont’d
Trailer Hitch Receiver, Receiver Cover and Hitch Pin

• Open the receiver hitch box and ensure the hitch included with the kit. The Ball

Rear Cargo Area Preparation
1. Remove the tail gate lower trim panel
by carefully pulling straight up by hand
and unseating the (4) retaining clips.
Start with the outer clip on one side
and work towards the opposite side to
remove the panel.
2. Place the panel aside for re-
installation later.
3. Note: use a clip removal tool to
remove any clips that might stay in the
vehicle body and replace the clip to
the appropriate panel location.

Remove Rear Bumper Beam
1) Using a 3/8” dr. ratchet, 6”
extension and 17mm deep
socket, remove (3) bolts and
(1) nut from the LH side and
repeat on the RH side to
remove the O.E. rear bumper
beam.
2) Dispose of the O.E. rear
bumper beam responsibly.
3) Save the all (6) used bolts and
(2) nuts they will be reused.

Hand install the
Remove Rear Bumper Beam saved 17mm
bolts and nut at
these locations
1. Hand start (6) saved 17mm head bolts on and repeat on
the opposite

2. Using a 3/8” dr. ratchet, 6” extension and Tightening Torque of re-used (1) 17mm Nut and (3) 17mm Bolt
per side is 52 ft.-lbs.

and (3) bolts on each side.
3. Using a Torque wrench, torque all (6) bolts
and (2) nuts to 52 ft. lbs.
4. Apply torque marks on the bolts and studs
when completed.
5. Apply 100% Clear Silicone or SEM “Rust Right Side Shown
Shield” paint (semproducts.com) to the
(3) bolt places and (1) stud place on each
side.
Apply 100% Silicone or SEM “Rust Shield” paint
(semproducts.com) on both the RH and LH sides.
Vinyl patches
Install the Trailer Hitch LH & RH Frame
Brackets
1) Remove the RH lower rubber grommet
and the (2) vinyl frame hole patches.
2) Repeat the grommet and patches
removal process for the LH side.

Torque Pattern
Loosely install the (4) 19mm head bolts (2 per side) on the LH and RH sides of the
hitch bar assembly.

Exception:
The (4) re-used M10 (17mm head)
bolts that secure the side plates in
place and the (2) bolts and (2) nuts
reinstalled to prevent corrosion are
torqued to:
52 ft.-lbs.
52 ft.-lbs.

❑ All (12) Hitch Bar and side bracket retaining 19mm bolt heads are torqued to 82 ft. lbs.
❑ The 7-Pin Connector Housing (4) 3/8 in. nuts are torqued to 5 in.lbs. using the torque sequence. 52 ft.-lbs.
❑ The 4-Pin Connector Housing (2) 7mm nuts are torqued to 5 in.lbs.
❑ The RH & LH Hitch Bar re-used 17mm head bolts (2 per side) are torqued to 52 ft. lbs.
❑ The RH & LH Inside Rear Body 17mm Stud-Nut (1) and 17mm head Bolt are torqued to 52 ft. lbs.
❑ All Bolts, Nuts being torqued must be torque marked to show torque confirmation.

The Trailer Hitch Wiring Harness Module
Installation Procedure
1) Working inside the left rear cargo area reach down
into the LH rear area below the cargo panel and
retrieve the trailer hitch harness.
2) Locate the vehicle harness connector on the harness
below the rear panel.
3) Using the trailer hitch module assembly, connect
the vehicle side (White 8-Pin) male connector to the
trailer hitch harness module female connector.
4) Plug-in the trailer hitch harness connector (Gray 8-
Pin) male connector into module (Gray 8-Pin)
female connector.
5) Ensure the connectors are properly locked in place
by push-pulling on the connectors.
6) Using the foam tape provided in the kit wrap the
(White 8-Pin) connector block with the foam tape.
7) Using the foam tape provided in the kit wrap the
(Gray 8-Pin) connector block with the foam tape.

3. Align the grounding wires with the 90-degree
angle inside of the square opening on the body.
Always reseat the rear gate area weather stripping by hand do not use any trim tools.
Note: The quick release fastener pins are no longer held onto the rear bumper trailer hitch access panel. If the
quick release fasteners are not properly installed to hold the access panel in place they will fall out on the
ground.

removed components

Countermeasure Replace the “white” clips with sealing washers on both tail light cover panels.

While connecting the negative battery cable to the stud, hold the battery
sensor in place with one hand while torqueing the 10mm hex nut that Torque mark the
secures the cable to the sensor. This will help support the sensor to
prevent damage and also prevent the assembly from rotating on the battery stud
battery post causing a poor connection.
Work Validation
Confirm this dash indicator for the RAB is RAB connection at the rear bumper
illuminated was not properly re-connected.
