TREE PLANTATION AND CLEANLINESS DRIVE
VENUE: GOVERNMENT SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL, AKODA

DATE: 31st October 2022

INTRODUCTION

The Pupil Teachers from the Department of Teacher Education, Central University of
Haryana along with the teachers and students of GSSS Akoda organized a cleaning and
plantation drive under the supervision of principal Sri. Ram Swaroop Yadav and the
internship coordinator Dr. Manju on the 31st of October, 2022. The program was conducted
in order to create awareness among the students and the community about the importance
of preserving the environment and engaging in environmentally sustainable activities. The
environment plays an integral role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem we live in.
Most people don’t understand the importance of the environment and end up damaging it
with their various activities. If we continue to degrade the environment, in the long run, the
adverse effects will affect human beings too. So, to protect the environment, one should
focus on sustainable development. In this way, the demands of human beings will be met
without overexploiting the natural resources of the environment.

Considering the manifold benefits of trees, including that they release oxygen into
the air, absorb unpleasant odors as well as harmful gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon
monoxide and sulfur dioxide from the air and purify it, protect us from dangerous ultra-
violet rays, provide us with food and the pivotal role played by trees in preventing soil
erosion, maintaining ecological balance and most especially in lessening the effects of global
warming, our team was insistent in ensuring community participation. Tree plantation is not
just something that should be done; instead, it is a necessity, the urgent need of the hour.
Planting of trees is especially important to protect our environment against air pollution and
global warming.
OBJECTIVES:

 To understand the importance of preserving and nourishing the environment.

 To create a generation of active participants in the fight against climate change.
 To create a tranquil learning environment.
 To bring about an attitudinal change in the students and help them to develop
societal consciousness, sensibility, responsibility and accountability.
 To develop a holistic life perspective among the students by making them study
culture, traditions, habits, lifestyles, resource utilization, wastages and its
management, social problems, public administration system and the roles and
responsibilities of different persons across different social systems.
 In order to understand social service as a graduate attribute.
 To improve social responsibility and citizenship skills.

PLANNING

The planning for the plantation and cleaning drive began with getting permission
from the Internship supervisor and the principal of the school. A discussion was conducted
with the staff of the school in order to create a route map for the rally and to confirm the
dates. It was finally decided that the event would be conducted on the 31 st of October.
Students were instructed to learn slogans and make posters that would be used during the
rally. Each pupil teacher was assigned with a certain responsibility. Mr. Yashdeep, Mr.
Donny, Mr. Sambhit, Mr. Vibhakar and Miss. Himanshu were in charge of discipline and
traffic management during the rally. Miss. Nithya, Miss. Roshni, and Miss. Arpita were in
charge of the posters, while Miss. Shruti, Miss. Pragya, Miss. Pragyan and Miss. Rashmita
oversaw the sloganeering and refreshments.

EXECUTION

The principal Sri Ram Swaroop Yadav, addressing the assembly, shared his wisdom
about the importance of tree plantation, especially in a region like Akoda and quoted the
scriptures to enlighten the students how it is their duty to save the environment. This was
followed by a short speech by Dr. Manju, the teacher in charge for the internship program,
pointing out how such activities create a sense of social responsibility and creates sensitivity
among the students.

The program began with a short rally where students actively participated in creating
awareness about the importance of sustainable practices and protecting the environment.
They raised slogans like; “Don’t be greedy; rather, be greeny”, “ववववववव वव वव
ववववव ववववव, ववव ववववव वववव ववववव” and “ववववव वव वववव वववव
ववव, वववव ववव वववव वववववव”. The organisers of the rally, which included the
pupil teachers and the school faculty, made sure that we passed through Akoda town and
the surrounding neighborhood so as to magnify our motto and to make sure it reaches
maximum people.

This was followed by a cleanliness drive, where the students not only cleaned the
school, but also the surrounding areas and the street in front of the school. The school had
arranged tree saplings which were planted all around the campus as well as the street
outside. Students from higher classes actively participated and worked together with the
pupil teachers to dig the hole and in collecting water.

CONCLUSION

The involvement of the students as well as the involvement of the locals in the
community activity is a testament to the success of the program. Through this event we
were able to spread awareness about the need for protecting and replenishing our
environment. The speeches by the principal as well as Dr. Manju was extremely inspiring.
Through their motivation, and the hard work of the pupil teachers, the rally as well as the
cleaning drive was undertaken by the students with great enthusiasm. Students were
educated about the benefits of each particular sapling or tree they planted by the life
science teachers. Not only did the students participate in this activity to save our
